to sell the item I just got off freecycle?

2point4kids · 24/11/2008 13:32

I use freecycle a lot. I offer things I dont need/use any more and I accept things that I would find useful. Probably offer as much as I accept.

Today I collected an item that I asked for as it would be handy for me and I will use it.
I just collected it and its in much better condition than I expected, with extras too.

I am very strapped for cash at the moment (arent we all?) and I am selling off as much of our stuff as will make money on ebay and here to try and make a few extra pennies.

If I dont sell it, I will use it and it will be useful but I dont need it and thats the criteria that I am selling off my own stuff on...so....

AIBU to sell on this freecycle item? Could make me about £30...

Myself I'd read the bit about Freecycle being ann "entirely nonprofit" movement to mean it was not acceptable to take things and immediately sell them on.

Fair enough if that is not how others interpret it.

TheLadyEvenstar · 25/11/2008 13:02

Flight yes i do get nappies and things for ds2 off of freecycle BUT there is also a large amount i BUY including the clothes I am selling and the nappies.

You see I never once said I don't buy things.

The nappies I got from freecycle I am still using. They were tots bots and ds2 still fits in them...want a picture?

Oh and the clothes were not from freecycle they were the ones I bought and were gifts that he has grown out of.

I do not collect things to resell them. I

Bath, freecycled it back
brand new bed spread, still using it
Brand new fleecy blanket, still using it
8 bags of clothes for 0-12 months mostly freecycled it back
gap, next and addidas
Muslin squares, use them in the kitchen now
cot sheets, still have some some are in the bin
cot, Used it until I moved and bought a new one.
did get a gorgeous pram but changed mind about it as I wanted a diff colour when i found out i having a boy. Gave it to a couple on freecycle whose baby was due before mine
Cot top changer (collecting tomoz) Also gave it back on freecycle
and for me ......

A babylis bath spa hmmmmmmmmm gave it to my mum.

I had to buy it when I saw it and am now in lurve with it lol. have got a lot of clothes as well from 0-12 months....freecycle again. Bedding, bath, crib, steriliser, bottle warmer, first toothbrush (lol), hairbrush, comb, manicure set, muslin squares, 2 pkts nappies, Nike trainers (they asked me to buy them!!!) socks, vests, sleepsuits, cot top changer, errr i think thats it lol.. so what else do i need???????? jesus who'd have thought 9 yrs could have this effect???

2point4kids · 25/11/2008 13:04

You offered to sell me the tots bots when I mentioned on another thread about trying different re-usable nappies for my baby...

TheLadyEvenstar · 25/11/2008 13:07

2point4, Yes because some (and ask other nappy users) come up smaller than others, I have a lot of different nappies. And if you look on here you will see I am buying nappies quite a lot. I am emptying my home of the ones I don't use, the ones I don't like and buying new ones.

I have over a 100 nappies not all tots but some that are very similar. And yes some are from FC some are bought.

Flightattendant4 · 25/11/2008 13:11

Fair dos
Have you finished with the nikes yet? I could use a pair

Flightattendant4 · 25/11/2008 13:12

Does 'Emptying my home' mean you're allowed to sell them then?

Just a thought...because that's what the OP was doing...

TheLadyEvenstar · 25/11/2008 13:12

lol flight i won't sell them as I bought them in paris when I was on holiday @ 5 m pregnant.

and they are soooooooo cute. teeny weeny little things.

Flightattendant4 · 25/11/2008 13:14

So these weren't from freecycle...along with the 70+ nappies you told Flame about?

TheLadyEvenstar · 25/11/2008 13:15

Flight if you are stating you are happy for an item to be sold on freecycle posting then it is up to the individual. MOST owners/moderators do not allow it as it does go against the ethics of the FC network.

as for me emptying my home of the nappies I don't need. I have bought over 100 nappies including just paying £90 for some on gumtree. In total I thinnk i have more in the region of 200+ and 1 14m old really doesn't need that many lol

TheLadyEvenstar · 25/11/2008 13:16

Flight nope, the ones i got from fc are still being used. With the exception of 4 which i sent to someone ffp.

Inzi, I am selling all the nappies Zachary has grown out of all his outgrown clothes, the buggies i don't use lol.could try selling ds1 and dp hmmmm

TheLadyEvenstar · 25/11/2008 13:17

Flight they are the ones I have bought on various sites and in charity shops (yes some do sell nappies). I have also swapped a lot of nappies which I have bought or swapped previously because they didn't suit.

But the ones I got from FC are the ones I am using because I like them.

TheLadyEvenstar · 25/11/2008 13:21

Flight your point being?

I have a Micralite fastfold, an emmaljunga an mamas and papas aria, and a bruin puchchair.

The Micralite was for sale but have changed my mind, I bought this

The emmaljunga has never been for sale as I love it,

The aria was a spur of the moment buy and i don't use it And I am trying to sell it as it is in my hallway taking up space.

Oh and I did have a loola which I have sold for £30 including delivery which was £8.

Want to see reciepts?

the bruin was bought because it would fit in the boot of the courtesy car we had after our car was broken into and we were due to go on holiday. The others were too big with the suitcases. But is not for sale.

brokenrecord · 25/11/2008 13:27

TLE You have done better out of Freecycle than most people I know. Is there not much take up where you live, or just lots of baby stuff on offer?

sherby · 25/11/2008 13:30

lol at this thread

TheLadyEvenstar · 25/11/2008 13:32

Brokenrecord,

The things I listed were when I was pg with ds2, and was got over a period of time not all in one go. The things I got I reoffered on freecycle when I had finished with them.

brokenrecord · 25/11/2008 13:40

Thanks. Was just curious as we don't have much baby stuff offered and it therefore gets snapped up straightaway.

2point4kids · 25/11/2008 13:43

As owner of your freecycle site do you review the offered posts before putting them for view by the general public by any chance?

OP posts:
TheLadyEvenstar · 25/11/2008 13:43

Broken, It was before I set up the local group and I joined the neighbouring one. As well as the London one. As i say I joined when I was 3m pregnant so I collected the things over a period of a few months. What i did use was re offered and went to 2 families.

TheLadyEvenstar · 25/11/2008 13:46

I never ask for an item before it has been posted on the group if thats what you are asking. I post it and then wait a while before requesting being considered for the item and I always add the line, I am the moderator of this group please feel free to offer to others first.

Most of the items I have got were from the neighbouring grou before the local one was set up.

NCbirdy · 25/11/2008 13:47

2point4

brokenrecord · 25/11/2008 13:51

Maybe you mixed me up with another poster. I don't mind what you did with them after - I am a Freecycler to keep things out of tips.. As others have said it's too big and unwieldy to try to control how people use it IMO. I think if anything it's up to the offerer to decide the terms and try to give it to the 'right' person.

My point is that you seem to be saying it is fine for you to get given about 70 nappies on freecycle, and buy some more so you have about 200 nappies (Oh, yes, you really needed that lot of 70 then!) and then sort out the ones that are the right size for yourt lO out of all of them, mixed up together, and then sell off all the ones that don't fit. Which would naturally include some from freecycle.

In which case you've done exactly what the OP has done.
