To want to PUNCH DH and call him docile?

jesusofutopia · 20/11/2008 14:48

I was my birthday today and DH bought me ... a Jamie Oliver book. The same bloody book as he bought me LAST birthday. why? Because he was looking for a different one but couldn't find one so just got me that one again. How dopey? why would you do that?

Last Christmas he bought me a ring EXACTLY the same as one I already had...why? "because I know you like it".

So AIBU to feel totally pissed off and fed up that either a) he can't be arsed to find me a decent present or b) he's so fucking gormless that he doesn't see anything wrong in buying the same thing for someone twice?

That is very, very, very odd.

pagwatch · 20/11/2008 14:50

YANBU

try and punch him. if he lets you then he really is docile

ledodgy · 20/11/2008 14:50

Wait until he's aocming home from work and is walking down the drive. Hide behind a bush then jump out on him. That should do it.

ledodgy · 20/11/2008 14:50

*coming

differentID · 20/11/2008 14:51

It could be a combination of the 2. Why don't you suggest that he get's gift vouchers from the shop of your choice? No one can mess those up!

nickytwotimes · 20/11/2008 14:51

Well, docile would be the wrong word.
this is what it means

He is an arse though!

Notreallycutoutforthis · 20/11/2008 14:52

I'd be tempted to drop him about 10 miles away and see if he has sufficient gorm to find his way home

mayorquimby · 20/11/2008 14:53

hahaha isn't domestic violence funny.

wonder how people would react if a bloke posted "aibu to want to punch dw, she did the ironing wrong."

BrokenliSpears · 20/11/2008 14:55

I'd be so upset if my dh put that little effort in to my birthday present (and I'm talking about a man who once gave me my gift wrapped in a petrol station pick'n'mix bag).

Does he show similar lack of effort elswhere in his life?

Notreallycutoutforthis · 20/11/2008 14:58

So MayorQ - do you turn off the Simpsons every time Bart gets throttled? SOH failure?

pagwatch · 20/11/2008 15:05

she didn't say she had punched him. She does not sound in the slightest as if she has any intention of punching him. It was not a serious suggestion.I certainly didn't regard it as a serious suggestion

No one was laughing at domestic violence.

Can we all take our sackcloths off now?

BitOfFun · 20/11/2008 15:26

I would rather poke my own eyes out than receive a Jamie Oliver book even once from my DP- but I suppose I shouldn't be so flippant about self-harm...

OP, you are definitely not being unreasonable!

pagwatch · 20/11/2008 15:29

Op - why don't you do what i do ( although it is with the children ) and write a list. Make it very specific with stores and store references and prices. And let him choose one.

You don't get crap and he copes withthe challenges that decision making clearly offer him.

hullygully · 20/11/2008 15:29

This can't be true

(I find I am typing that more and more these days...)

BitOfFun · 20/11/2008 15:32

[Grin] @ hullygully, shall we go on grumpy old women together?

hullygully · 20/11/2008 15:35

But it can't be. Really.

BenFMsmum · 20/11/2008 15:36

Perhaps you should start to do the same for him, ie give him the same food for dinner and say "well you liked it yesterday!" I could forgive maybe if he had forgotten that he'd given you the same thing but to do it deliberately?? Shows no imagination at all!

MorrisZapp · 20/11/2008 15:50

This is the poster who jumped out of a bush yesterday.

Think she's er, looking for attention.

ForeverOptimistic · 20/11/2008 15:55

How weird so your dh actually realised that you already had the book then? How strange.

Mayorquimby I don't think the OP was actually planning on punching her dh. Just like my sides didn't ACTUALLY split when I read your post either.

hullygully · 20/11/2008 15:55

Ahhh. Said it couldn't be true. But v good!

hullygully · 20/11/2008 15:56

Liked the bush one too - the vase was a nice touch!
