To be pissed off with an invasion of privacy??

Next door are having an extension built onto the back of their house so asked permission to take down a fence panel from our garden as the wall of their extension will be where the fence panel is. This now means that our garden is open to theirs and our patio and conservatory is laid wide open for their builders (at least 3 of them) to view.

I am a smoker but only smoke with my head hanging out of the conservatory door or standing on the patio so now feel that I cannot do this as the builders are only about 5ft away (not bothered about irritating their poor little lungs - just my privacy .

When our neighbour spoke to my DH about this, he was under the impression that it would only be for a few days but has now been 3 weeks and they have not even started on the wall!! Not only that but they have blocked our drive on a number of occassions and also covered it with mud (big mud heap falling onto our drive from theirs)so DH is parking down the road!!. I have said to DH to have a word with her but he wonders what I am getting uptight about!!

Am now getting pissed off as this neighbour used to completely blank us and never said more than 2 words until she asked us about this.

AIBU to expect that I should be able to have a fag in private!!

Why are you worried about builders you don't know seeing you smoke

Could you ask them to put a tarp or something up in the gap until they start work?

I suspect the neighbourly thing to do is to put up with it. You never know when you may need a favour... It might be worth asking how long it will take, just so they know you are being inconvenienced by it.

Cant you just ask them to put the fence panel back until they are actually ready to start on building the wall?
