To Think That Some MNs Take Things To Far!

I am new to mumsnet (to finally getting the courage to post something)and I realise I might be in for a bit of a bashing but here goes:
I have been visiting the site for quite some time now, just reading about different problems and the advice that is given.
So far no problem.

That is until someone actually writes something that some of you disagree with, or you seem to just take the view that it is someone pissing about.
Now the problem with that it seems to me, is that a few of you seem quite thrilled to respond to these posts (I think thats what they are called) with lightening speed and seem to relish the fact that you can insult and abuse this post as long as it keeps you amused!

I even suspect that some MNs have one rule for some and another rule for others. How can anyone justify this? It seems very hypocritical of what the site is all about.
In fact, as I have read many different posts and learnt some of the more colourful nicknames I can see a sort of bullying going on! I am pretty sure some of you know this is true!

So, there it is, my first post, and I am actually nervous about the sort of responses I will get back.Lol.

hell i am not interesting/contentious enough to be deleted or called troll.so i yakk on regardless

hoping one day someone reads a post and thinks oh my giddy aunt, and has to retire to the parlour for a hot toddy

I'm new too, and have only posted a couple of times, but have had nice positive responses - maybe because what I posted about wasn't necessarily contentious. However, I will agree that a lot of sites change over time - I've just had to leave a site I was a very active member of, and the majority of whose members are fantastic, because the bullying of one person and hideously pious behaviour of another made me sick. It's horrible when things come to that, but I guess it's the way of the web. The big disadvantage is of course that you cannot see someone's face when they post so, unless you 'know' that person, offence can be taken.

That's my bit - hope that's ok!!

juicyjolly · 17/11/2008 09:26

I was lurking on occasion and seen a thread deleted because someone called somebody 'drippyshoes' instead of their proper nickname.
This struck me as very odd as I have seen some very very abusive threads directed at the different times.

MNHQ try not to delete threads at the drop of a hat though, they watch the contentious ones and only consider deletion if somebody is actively baying for it (I think)

Aitch · 17/11/2008 09:30

actually... i think you'll find i never said 'it's the internet, anything goes'. i said to report bullying using the red exclam. but you know... reading what suits their thesis into what's actually being said is classic bad MN girl behaviour, so you'll fit in.

actually she never said you said that - she said that and knows that, read the posts again and again and it will come out different.

yes but you said and then she said about what you said when I said you only said what she said

and you can't come to my party

woodenit be funny if a lady had a woodenit be funny if a lady had a woodenit

Aitch · 17/11/2008 09:50

have done, ivy. she's directly referencing my post about it not being family and suggesting that i put forward that people should be left to be attacked. which is not true. i said that people should keep a sense of perspective. tbh if they did so (such as not asking AIBU and then whining when the world replies YABU, there would be less of these so-called attacks anyway.)

lol greeny. [mumbum]

I think it's certainly true that regular posters get away with saying things that newbies would be jumped on for saying.

If a regular had started this thread the initial response would have been vastly different.

hell post any ole way you fancy,1st time or not.no rules.you take your chances plain and simple

Aitch · 17/11/2008 10:03

but WHY would that surprise you, wannabe? [baffled]

if your friend points something out about a group that you both belong to, you'd respond differently to some stranger rocking up and saying 'i've been observing your group', surely?

daftpunk · 17/11/2008 10:03

this type of thread comes up about once a week..so don't worry...you're not breaking new ground..it's all part of the fun i guess..and i agree that some posters will never disagree with certain other posters (because they are friends) i've even started doing it....

Aitch · 17/11/2008 10:07

really, daftpunk? i love disagreeing with people i know on here, it gets really interesting and challenging.

Boco · 17/11/2008 10:08

I agree with Lapin - you could have started with a nice thing. You said that you've cried laughing at mn, so start with that - because we all just crave positive reinforcement y'know. Have you read How to Talk ? And then later you could say 'i know it must be jolly fun to be a bunch of bitches, but...' etc.

coolma · 17/11/2008 10:11

Now I feel victimised cos no-one's mentioned my post

daftpunk · 17/11/2008 10:12

oh yes i still love disagreeing (not just for the sake of it)...but a few people on here i've really got to like and i know i wouldn't disagree with them anymore....i just wouldn't post at all..iykwim.

Fimbo · 17/11/2008 10:15

JuicyJolly - may I suggest you spend some time in here
