.. from giving ds a present I told her we had bought him for xmas???

I mentioned we'd bought him a mini broom/dustpan etc set for xmas and when we went over for lunch today she gave him one! I am so why would you do that?

When they saw I was annoyed they took it away and hid it and said I could still give it to him, he'll have forgotten by then. Which I'm sure he will, he's only 18mo but it just feels like THAT'S NOT THE POINT!

How irritating. Had they forgotten that you already had one for him, or did they know and do it anyway? Could he have one set at his grandparents and one set at home?

Maveta · 16/11/2008 14:11

She said she didn't realise I had meant it was a xmas present. Despite the fact that I called to say we had been xmas present shopping and had bought x, y, z. Yes he can have one set at each house, of course. But they could have waited til I had given it to him to bring theirs out, surely?

they probably just forgot. Not worth getting bothered about.

sounds like a misunderstanding

or is there history?

MrsWeasley · 16/11/2008 14:36

That's what my mother used to do. She also told my children what DH and I are getting them for birthday and christmas one year. So now I refuse to tell her anything.

naturalblonde · 16/11/2008 17:56

My mum did this, boughnt d a little tikes car to have at her house, when I'd told her not to buy one as me and dh were getting her one for her birthday. I was fuming, esp as I'd asked her not to, and it was 3 weeks before her birtday,. mum said we should still get her one and she could have one at each house.

I was not impressed, not having spoiled child getting big pressies all year round, and plus my mum KNEW we were getting her that.

It drives me crazy. The other day she wass looking after dd, and when I got back dd was playing with one of her xmas pressies that was in the spare room. Apparently dd had gone in there and asked for it, so mum said ok, depsite me telling her i'd bought it for a xmas pres 2 days earlier.

I seem to have hijacked thread a bit. But feel better for getting that off my chest

mrsweasley and naturalblonde, that is terrible! well I suppose it´s good to know I am not alone must be a grandma thing. Yes of course according to her it was a misunderstanding but it does seem to happen a lot and I can´t see they forgot, I told her thurs night and she went and bought it yesterday.

Maybe this time i will stick to my guns and remember not to tell them anything!!
