seriously today they could wear what they wanted, dd is in reception and wore a princess dress as did most of the girls her age. an awful lot of the little girls coming out of the junior school were wearing high heels, wtf is that about?

What do you mean by 'high'?

In any case I don't think YABU at all - I was never allowed heels as a growing girl; it annoyed the pants off me but now I can see why. From time to time I see other girls in heels and am - don't their parents know it's not good for them?

thesockmonsterofdoom · 14/11/2008 17:30

some higher than I would be able to walk in (I am very feminine me )

YANBU I hate seeing little girls in high heels. Very tacky. I also hate it when I see schoolgirls od DD1's age (5) or younger and some older wearing their school uniform with knee high boots and no tights. It just doesn't look right IMO.

justunaccomplishedmummy · 14/11/2008 17:39

that was OF dd1's age

onthewarpath · 14/11/2008 17:48

Yanbu. DS1 wanted some beacause "all her friends had them". I never gave in , explaining to her that it was not healthy for a growing child to wear high heels for one thing and that little girls should dress like little girls. She was not happy on the spot but has never asked again.

needmorecoffee · 14/11/2008 17:49

doesn't it fuck up their feet and posture?

LittleBella · 14/11/2008 17:51

Well... it might be just a "one day" one off thing, shoes they're allowed to wear only on special occasions.

But it's pretty naff, yes.

pointydog · 14/11/2008 17:52

was it just a one-off re dress down day re the heels?

Anna8888 · 14/11/2008 17:54

Yuck I hate high heels on pre-pubescent girls.

Have you seen the shoe choices in Clarks?? Horrendous, most with heels.

Now I dont mind the girls having nice shoes but God, all they want to do is run round a flippin playground without breaking their necks!!

Buckets · 14/11/2008 17:57

I don't like them but then I don't like make up, thongs, risque slogan t-shirts or earrings on little girls. I'm only 32 and have already turned into my mum it seems.

tillyblue · 14/11/2008 18:04

Embracing middle age Buckets!
Do you tut too as they pass ?

BoysAreLikeDogs · 14/11/2008 18:07

yy I belong to the tut gang.

[middle aged]

Buckets · 14/11/2008 18:10

No I just sigh.

TheLadyEvenstar · 14/11/2008 18:11

Buckets snap

MadameCastafiore · 14/11/2008 18:13

Its vile isn't it and so bad for their backs! Mind you DD hates me for making her wear T Bar Kickers - big clompy things that last for ages and don't wear out! I have had 3 mums ask me where I got them from just last term.

Mind you the highlights, black uggs and mascara are far worse IMO!

mom21bat · 14/11/2008 18:14

no, Buckets, don't panic! you've not turned into your mother, you've quite reasonably turned into someone who is upset by the sexualization of little girls.

Riponite · 14/11/2008 18:15

My mother just bought DD1 3.5 first pair of glittery marabou feather plastic HEELS, not really a problem with first bits but Woolies sell great glittery dressup shoes that are properly flat and run-in-able and we had discussed it and all... Am very middle aged and always have been.

MarmadukeScarlet · 14/11/2008 18:16

LOL @ embracing middle age at 32!

I am an ancient old 36 yr old, I am a tutter - not THE tutter, obviously

YANBU.

pointydog · 14/11/2008 18:16

if they wore high heels to school as amatter of course, I'd be with you. Wearing them once on a dress down day, they're just showing off a bit.

tillyblue · 14/11/2008 18:21

Thing is though, as Mum to a tweenie (12 going on 14yrs) if you dont indulge them a little bit they will rebel when they are older.

DD1 became a Goth at 8.5yrs. Ridiculous I know. But Dh and I indulged her a little thinking if she did it now she would definiteley not do it at 14yrs.
And she did look cute as a Gothling! Now sh thinks it was an awful phase .

So maybe they need the little high heels at home and on occasion.

mom21bat · 14/11/2008 18:24

Oh god, have just remembered that my THREE year old has a pair of flamenco shoes AND a pair of plastic clip-clop shoes, both with heels. I promise I don't let her wear them out of the house.

Though actually, she just looks gorgeously silly - as though she were wearing my grown-up shoes. It's the six-year-olds in real heels, Pretty Baby-stylee, that truly freak me.

AuntieMaggie · 14/11/2008 18:26

yes I hate it too - one of those I think parents who let their DD's wear "fashionable" shoes to take more notice to the damage they could be doing to their feet!

I also hate it when parents let their kids dye their hair and other things that can harm them before they even become an adult.

onebatmother · 14/11/2008 18:26

sorry that was me.
