To be really shocked and judgey at the amount of children in dd's junior school wearing high heels

seriously today they could wear what they wanted, dd is in reception and wore a princess dress as did most of the girls her age. an awful lot of the little girls coming out of the junior school were wearing high heels, wtf is that about?

I didn't even know people put heels on shoes in children's sizes? In my mind there is some sort of law where all shoes for school must be fitted by a lady in Clarks and have the correct width fitting.

Re: 12/13 year olds wearing high heels. This would not have been an issue when I was this age - we all wore DM's. I think when I was 11 flat courts were in fashion (ala Princess Di) and when I was in the 6th form everybody had Timberlands. High heels simply weren't in fashion when I was at secondary school.

needmorecoffee · 15/11/2008 08:54

thank goodness dd has gone for grunge/goth. At 16 she has never had heels (mind you, I'm 40 and have never worn any either )

Buckets · 15/11/2008 14:50

I have a peepeeteepee (or willy wigwam) (it was free!) and it's just too small to stay put even on a newborn.

Mymblemummy did you give the Earls Court people feedback?

OrmIrian · 15/11/2008 14:58

I have to try not to notice because it brings out my latent cats-arse mouth and the silent harumphs. Heels, silly sparkly sandals, sequins and t-shirts with slogans. School disco is another occasion - even worse as there is also make-up and sparkly hair stuff too. DD wears jeans, boots and a leather jacket . Looks much better.

girlywhirly · 15/11/2008 16:44

I recently holidayed in Andalusia, and loved the childrens clothes and shoes there, absolutely nothing tarty, flat round toed shoes with a bar over the instep in loads of different coloured leathers, fun but still childrens styles of clothes. I loathe garments with sexually inviting slogans, even on adults.

I never cheat on shoe quality though, you only get one pair of feet and they have to last the rest of your life as my dad wisely used to say.

wehaveallbeenthere · 15/11/2008 16:50

TheLadyEvenstar, thank you for putting the link on the thread. I really am inept with this computer.
Whatever happened to putting the warm wipe or wet diaper over the little ones (boy) weewee and then changing them to the dry? Or having a changing cloth ready (once you change a boy baby you pretty much learn to get it right or risk a need to change yourself). I would think a peepee teepee would rocket off.
Oh yes, I told you so...those baby heels makes your head want to fly right off!

wehaveallbeenthere · 15/11/2008 16:53

It's a small wonder the heelarious shoes are a non-returnable item. Have a great day ladies.

AnnVan · 15/11/2008 17:51

I hate it too - little girls should not be dressed in adult fashion and make up. it's all very well complaining about paedophiles, but what about the fashion industry that is sexualising increasingly young girls, and the toy/movie industry providing sexualised toys for said little girls (thinking particularly of Bratz here) Is a paedophile going to resist a ten year old in mini skirt, crop top, high heels and make-up?

needmorecoffee · 15/11/2008 17:52

there's a school disco coming up soon. I wasn't gonna take dd cos ear crunching music isn't my thing but I might toddle along and get some judging in

mygreatauntgriselda · 15/11/2008 18:08

Haven't little girls always wanted to wear high heels, so they can feel like big girls? I guess if they only wear them for dressing up (with their princess dresses...) its OK isn't it?

I'm more of a sensible shoes frumpwoman myself and would never let DD wear heels (for heathly feet reasons) but she does have one pair of pale pink sparkly kitten heels to dress up in and trot around the house.

Hi needacoffee [waves] just seen you on another thread

needmorecoffee · 15/11/2008 18:20

eeek, its my stalker
being a hippy goth type myself, maybe thats why dd didn't aspire to the dressing as mummy in heels thing. She did stomp around in My doc martins though (after her loincloth Mowgli phase)
dressing up for fun is fine but some poeple dress their little girls like sexy adult women. That brings out a severe rash of judgeness

mygreatauntgriselda · 15/11/2008 19:36

needmorecoffee - totally agree - seeing children in slutty clothes is horrible [shcck]

My DD is a hippy too - a kind of Janis Joplin but with glittery wings on!

Even in her school uniform she looks Boho

Strange actually as altough I am more boring middle aged Mum now, I was always a hippy too when younger, so perhaps she takes after me (and will end up frumpy mum too)

TheSmallClanger · 15/11/2008 21:01

YANBU. Tiny Clanger is not allowed heeled shoes until she is 13 - we have even talked about it.
I hate seeing 8-year-olds clopping along on high-heeled boots, leaning over because of the stress on their ankles. It looks awful and can do long-term damage to their foot and ankle bones.

Jux · 15/11/2008 21:20

So many of dd's (year 5) class mates wear high heels - some since year 2! DD knows that she won't be getting any until she's 15. She's very style conscious and is desperate for heels, but is bearing it quite well.

I often wander into Clarkes, pick up a pair of kids' shoes and ask the manager loudly why they are selling shoes which are guaranteed to ruin children's feet and backs. It amuses me if I'm out and bored.

TheSmallClanger · 15/11/2008 21:22

Jux, you are braver than I. Good on you.

mymblemummy · 15/11/2008 23:28

Wehaveallbeenthere, the Heelarious monstrosities were the shoes at Earls Court. Apparently they were just in from the USA and selling like hot cakes. The stall was crowded.

Buckets, no I didn't challenge them. I noted down their details to pass to a journalist I know.... element of surprise and all that.

TrinityRhino · 15/11/2008 23:34

I cannot stand heels on pre pubescent girls

I cannot understand why anyone would think its ok

bad for posture, more chance or accidents, looks tacky and UGH

really do not believe some of the styles of shoes out at the mo for young girls

Botbot · 15/11/2008 23:38

This is one of the few things I am properly judgy about. High heels on children just look wrong. And I speak as someone who has a metal plate in her ankle because of breaking her ankle badly from falling off some high heels (OK, I was pissed, and I was 25, but that's beside the point }

thesockmonsterofdoom · 16/11/2008 07:48

we have tons of cloppy ones for dressing up, although like you nmc mine prefer to wear my big clumpy biker boots or dms, very cute. I used to wear stupid heels (as an adult) until I sat ion the corner of an all night club once because I was in so much pain, I vowed never to wear heels again.
I really dont understand why peiople let there young girls dress like this, surely while still at junior school they are still running around and playing (really really hopeful)
