here

As i said on my post ds2 has the same first name and our surname is very simular.
I hate it when people do this like the ones eg all stuarts are ....

There is no need for it and can be very uppsetting.

Well, names are very significant.
Ignore it. I'm sure not everyone likes ds's name, but I love it, so fuck 'em.

lal123 · 14/11/2008 11:32

yes YABU. Agree with Fimbo

debzmb62 · 14/11/2008 11:32

WorzselMummage · 14/11/2008 11:33

Oh YABU !

jenniferturkington · 14/11/2008 11:33

YABU.

VinegarTits · 14/11/2008 11:33

Its not a personal attack against your ds, its very light hearted as far as i can see, just ignore it

spiceymama · 14/11/2008 11:35

thanks nickytwotimes
It took us a while to finally pick ds2 name as ds1 is autistic and has speech problems so we wanted something that he could prononce.

Also ds2 name has a very simular meaning as ds1name

Every single names thread invokes the possibility of huffing and harrumphing.

I don't know why anyone gives a damn what anyone else thinks of a name as long as they like it. And i can't bear the stereotyping and snobbery that goes on either.

God, I would NEVER have started a name thread when i was pg - and never discussed our preferred choices with with any family or friends, either. Causes SO much grief!

hecate · 14/11/2008 11:37

yabu to start another thread about it. That's not on, really. And the thread wasn't about you or your son, and like it or not, people DO form opinions about names, and they DO get a mental image of a person based on a name. IF some random person is saying they don't like the name that your child happens to have, so what? Who cares? You like it and that's all that matters. I am 100% certain that many mners, given the chance would ridicule my children's (unusual) names.

Do I give a fuck? I think not.

Now if they said my CHILDREN were, X, Y, Z, then I'd bop em one!

guyFAwkesreQuiem · 14/11/2008 11:48

just had a read of the thread - I think YABU.

They're not saying your child is like that.

Just that like it or not, names will very often produce an image in someones mind about what the person is like. Doesn't mean that they're right (of course!) but that it happens.

How many times have you spoken to someone online/telephone and then formed an image in your mind of what they're like - and then been totally shocked by how different they are when you actually meet them?

It happens - even writers (of novels/stories) quite frequently choose names of their characters because of a "stereotype" - are we going to lynch them all

BlackEyedDog · 14/11/2008 11:57

well I like a few of the names mentoned on that thread!

don't worry about it, is not important.

Bubbaluv · 14/11/2008 12:13

YABU, 2 names I am considering for DS2 are on there and I think it's interesting to see the variety of opinions expressed. did you really think everyone liked your DS's name? The point of these threads is to hear what people REALLY think but would never say in RL.
BTW, none of the negative opinions expressed have had any impact on my thoughts on the names I am weighing up.

Quattrocento · 14/11/2008 12:17

YABU all baby name threads are fair game and this was actually quite tame.

sunnygirl1412 · 14/11/2008 12:24

Try not to worry, spiceymama - nasty comments by people here (or anywhere else for that matter) say far more about them than they do about the subject of their comments.

mabanana · 14/11/2008 12:28

Don't be daft. It's not about your son.

jujumaman · 14/11/2008 12:32

yabu

Everyone on here will see their dc's name attacked on the babynames topic at some point.

Don't read them if you don't like it.

RaspberryBlower · 14/11/2008 12:33

I don't see the point of these name threads really. I didn't tell anyone else what names we had chosen (let alone a load of strangers) after my best friend said my dd's name was 'an old lady name' and my dad pulled his face at our choice of a boys name. Yes, I agree others who have said fuck em, it doesn't matter.

nickytwotimes · 14/11/2008 19:31

spiceymama, I am glad you took what I said the right way because I did post on that thread as a bit of light hearted relief shortly before spotting yours.
I mean that all names will be judged, but in the end, who cares? Ds's name is quite plain and inoffensive I think (lol!) but as i say, some people may find it dull and boring - I don't care!
Nor should you care about what people might think either.
Also, the posts talked aobut a hypothetical person, not a real one, which naturally makes a huge difference.
I am rambling now, but I just wanted to post again incase you thought I'd been sneaky posting on the thread that upset you whilst telling you to fuck 'em! You can tell me to fark off too, I don't mind!

spiceymama · 14/11/2008 22:06

you are fine nickytwotimes
