to hope that the people who tortured that baby to death will get a taste of their own medicine in prison?

I know that two wrongs don't make a right and all that...but I can't help it.

I really can't accept that they'll just get a few years in prison and be out to get on with their lives. I don't even agree with the death penalty, but this Baby P case just makes me (along with everyone else, I know) so so angry.

So AIBU to actually wish them harm?

Why oh why do the Mumsnet police berate anyone who dares express an opinion or say something they don't like? This is a chat forum FGS; if you don't want to read views or opinions of other people then don't log on but don't try and veto or silence what people say. Unless it's unlawful (in which case I hope MN lawyers are on the case) then the OP has a right to express a view about something regardless of how many other threads there are on the subject. In any event, she is only saying what the rest of us feel. I hope they rot in hell for what they did to that little boy. We are ALLOWED to discuss this - by discussion and reflection maybe another similar tragedy would be prevented from unfolding.

daisy5678 · 14/11/2008 22:17

Not bringing it up 2shoes. Just pointing out that it's the only topic I actually post on or about normally so that's why I don't know these unwritten rules.

I did look, on the whole of the first page of AIBU. I don't go on any other sections (which is where I'm presuming these countless other threads are.)

southeastastra · 14/11/2008 22:18

why did you not think to look on the news topic?

jasper · 14/11/2008 22:20

Didn't Terry Wogan dance beautifully tonight?

missed terry, we watched white chicks, omg it was funny

Gangle · 14/11/2008 22:22

Does she have to? Have you checked all other topics to check there isn't a similar thread to this one? Where in the MN Rules of Membership is it prescribed that you can't start a new thread on a topic already under discussion? Do newspapers do this? No.

2shoes · 14/11/2008 22:24

oh do come on, every time every one thinks about this, they seem to start a new thread, chack out the news topic.
that is bad enough, but chat and AIBU as well!!!

Saturn74 · 14/11/2008 22:26

"Why oh why do the Mumsnet police berate anyone who dares express an opinion or say something they don't like?"

This trite little comment is becoming so tedious.

There is no 'police'.

There is, however, a large group of individuals that believe that freedom of speech comes with a certain responsibility.

That responsibility includes not salaciously poring over the horrific death of an innocent child, and not attempting to stir up lynch mob feelings.

Yes, we are all allowed to say what we like - it's a free country / open board, blah de blah blah.

Just because you can, doesn't mean you have to, or even should, does it?

This isn't your living room - it's a public forum.

I would have thought any intelligent adult would be able to grasp that.

daisy5678 · 14/11/2008 22:29

Have done, on weird address as normal one isn't working - it's not spam.

Well, Humphrey, any intelligent adult should be ableto grasp the concept that my OP did not attempt to stir up a lynch mob. It asked a question. That you didn't like. So. You. Didn't. Need. To. Post. On. It.

I equally didn't even start to 'pore' over the details of the abuse. You're making stuff up now! If it makes you happy, go for it!

Bubble99 · 14/11/2008 22:37

I have no problem with discussion of anything but I wish posters wouldn't use thread titles like this one - though, to be fair I think the OP has acknowledged this.

edam · 14/11/2008 22:41

So, essentially what we have here is someone who says she only posts on AIBU and can't think of anywhere else to start threads about something that is, you know, in the news ... isn't that unreasonable in itself? And shouldn't she then expire in a puff of illogicality?

daisy5678 · 14/11/2008 22:42

I did, Bubble. Will use less emotive next time...erm, not that there will be!

2shoes, it's not come.

daisy5678 · 14/11/2008 22:42

Edam, do read. I've not posted here before.

Bubble99 · 14/11/2008 22:43

edam. I knew you were Vulcan.

Saturn74 · 14/11/2008 22:44

I posted on your thread because I am appalled by it, and wanted to state my opinion.

I'm not "making stuff up".

There are numerous inappropriate threads on this topic; some of them have been poring over the graphic details.

Your thread is merely another one in a long line of inappropriate crap.

I'm stunned that you feel the need to grin and joke about it all though.

Your OP asked people if they thought you were unreasonable for wishing the perpetrators harm.

Your thread title asked if you were unreasonable to "to hope that the people who tortured that baby to death will get a taste of their own medicine in prison?"

Lynch mob.

Go polish your pitchfork.

Quattrocento · 14/11/2008 22:47

Rubbernecking

Very distasteful.

2shoes · 14/11/2008 22:51

(have tried to send it again)

Gangle · 14/11/2008 22:51

FFS Humphrey, if you have that amount of venom then save it for the perpetrators of the crime, not for people who want to discuss it on a publically available chatroom. If we lived by your rules noone would be allowed to read a newspaper!! Get a life. When something like this happens it's natural that people feel a need to discuss and rationalise.

2shoes · 14/11/2008 22:52

the op is a poster on the sn topic.
