I know, shoot me for doing it, too.

But I am blocking news topics as I am of a very anxious disposition and cant read threads like that.

Do we really need 2 of them in Chat????

(I am not posting on them as i wont open the links, WONT see it in threads I am on, etc....)

We have a NEWS TOPIC for a reason. snort.

there are nearly 70 unanswered threads, go bump them all, and the offending threads will vanish out of view

solidgoldbrass · 11/11/2008 23:21

Me too. 600 threads full of people going 'Waaaah!' and 'Hang them all' and then airing all the details yet again. Ugh.

NCbirdy · 11/11/2008 23:24

Isn't this now the second thread asking for there not to be so many threads?

Perhaps MNHQ could be asked about a catogary facility for the news topic to make it easier to check if a thread has already been started? I think most people do check but it can be hard with so many threads moving so fast!

Please excuse the typing

QuintessentialShadow · 11/11/2008 23:26

Anyone wants to join me in bumping unanswered thread?

OP posts:
weebump · 11/11/2008 23:27

YABU. Stop creating threads about it yourself. There wouldn't be so many then, would there?

I really wish people wouldn't put the distressing details in the thread title either - I have been avoiding this all day as it distressed me so much and am still v. peed off with Ch 5 for their rubbernecky level of gory detail. They shoudl have put a warning on their coverage - not for viewers of a nervous/ depressive/ hormonal disposition (I'm not actually any of those 3 things and I STILL found it TMI and too much to bear)

surely people all horrified, so its normal. unless there is some kind restriction one thread for topic

QuintessentialShadow · 11/11/2008 23:29

Why not post threads about it in NEWS?

Isnt that what the topic is for?

isnt this NEWS?

But now you have successfully posted the topic in this section too. Well done.

southeastastra · 11/11/2008 23:33

agree re channel 5, i haven't heard anything about this case today, apart from that and on here.

yanbu, should be on the news section

NCbirdy · 11/11/2008 23:33

OS, I have done a couple - sadly I can't seem to find that many I can actually help with

Ronaldinhio · 11/11/2008 23:33

yabu

i would guess that most people answered whichever thread was in their prefered board when they got there

I'm sorry if that is upsetting for you and I'm sorry that you feel it should be restricted to the news thread but as it isn't why not just do yourself a favour and not read it

people are shocked and saddened and want to talk about it with their "friends" on their usual threads

i don't actually see how it is affecting you as you don't have to read the threads

pippibluestocking · 11/11/2008 23:35

I completely agree - I find such stories exceedingly distressing and for my own sanity, I avoid them - it goes on, I know, but I don't want to knopw the details and I don't want to be subjected to them against my will in thread titles - please can people avoid graphic details in the titles and then those people who wish to contribute can do so, and those who wouLod rather avoid such things can do so.

southeastastra · 11/11/2008 23:37

you have to read the titles though before you can hide them

pippibluestocking · 11/11/2008 23:39

Yes - but if they just give basic idea, e.g. "terrible abuse story in news today" for example, then those who wish too, can, and those who don't, don't have to.

NCbirdy · 11/11/2008 23:39

Perhaps that is something MNHQ could do, put a note on News not to include graffic or distressing info in the title?

I agree, I find these things extremly difficult to deal with and have not watched the news for around 2 years because of this. There have been several thread titles that have been too much for me (and my sensitive disposition )

Ronaldinhio · 11/11/2008 23:40

ok

you are not being unreasonable about the titles which are unnecessary and distressing but you are being unreasonable about only wanting the discussions to be held in the news thread

thumbwitch · 11/11/2008 23:44

I have found to my intense annoyance that, if you post on a thread, you can't hide it from your "threads I am on" list. you can only hide it from Active Convos. And I mostly use Threads I'm on. Of course, since then, I haven't posted on a thread I don't want to keep seeing!

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 11/11/2008 23:48

still 51 in unanswered threads... come on!

lilolilmanchester · 11/11/2008 23:52

haven't read all the posts (I know, I hate people who start posts like that) BUT I am a parent horrified at what has happened. I appreciate that you don't want to keep hearing about it, but please, just learn to skip over the OPs and not read them. This is a hugely emotive subject, and people are going to post without necessarily checking previous posts, so you will get multiple threads. Try to ignore if you don't want to read them, but don't try to stop other people who need to vent against such atrocious crimes. (meant in the nicest possible way, not being critical)

thumbwitch · 11/11/2008 23:56

lilolil, no one is trying to stop people who wish to vent, just would prefer them to be less graphic in the thread titles so that it doesn't upset those of us who DON'T want to know any more about it than we already do.
