....when this is the best value for money and is automatic - what I'm used to driving! Honestly, you can't see what colour it is when you are inside it. It takes you from a to b etc. etc.

YANBU,it is a car fgs as you say gets you from a-b.My friend has just bought a VERY fuel economical Seat Ecomotiva which is fab on the fuel economy front!!!

citronella · 11/11/2008 21:54

well you are being a little unreasonable. I know it's just a car (just material and all that) but light blue is a naff colour for a car.

thumbwitch · 11/11/2008 21:54

What possible reason has he got for discounting a light blue car? I mean, I would refuse to own a red car but that is because they apparently statistically have the largest number of accidents. Or they did until silver cars took over the world.

cheesesarnie · 11/11/2008 21:55

pmsl why wont he?

Suedonim · 11/11/2008 21:56

Light blue is my least-favourite colour so imo, YABVU.

TaleofTwoCities · 11/11/2008 21:56

That sounds good. He's gone upstairs in a huff now. We are not particularly into cars and I had all but forgotten the 'discussions' about colour when we last bought a car in 2003 but now it's all coming back to me.

FairLadyRantALot · 11/11/2008 21:57

there are many reasons to reject a car....but colour...really...

dh and I giggled when we were out and about to get him his laptop...because there were we are looking at value for money, basically....and there across from us was this young girl/student...saying to her mum..oh I like this one tis so pretty
been a standing joke since...lol

TaleofTwoCities · 11/11/2008 22:00

I think I'll wind him up a bit longer about wanting the light blue one anyway! Lol about the 'pretty laptop'. I was giggling the other day in ELC when a woman was comparing happyland toys and saying 'well this one only makes 2 sounds, but this one makes 4 sounds'.

Shoshe · 11/11/2008 22:02

We have bought 4 cars over the last few years, bought them because they have been the car we needed. ( Large, lots of seats for CMing)

They have all been snot green

About to retire from CM. Next car I buy will be a Silver Sports car. And NOTHING will make me buy a Snot Green car again.

So no you are not BU if its just to get from a to be.

You ABU if its a dream car

nickerless · 11/11/2008 22:25

well thats about a good of a reason to reject a car, as dh's reason why dd should go to a school in town A over town B. He wants her to go to the Grammar in Town A, as Town A has a better night life, for when she turns 18!!!! wtf.

Ripeberry · 11/11/2008 22:32

How dare he! My first car was a light blue ford fiesta 1.3 sport 1976 with tastefull dark blue blobs on the panels where the previous owner could not be bothered to match the original colour
But i loved it as it had sport written on it and when you're 18yrs old that's all you need!

Ripeberry · 11/11/2008 22:33

It was a total rustbucket as i found out to my cost!

scaryteacher · 11/11/2008 23:14

I have a black one, as I look slimmer in black!

LazyLinePainterJane · 12/11/2008 07:42

Well, unless there was only one option thanks to cost, I think colour is important. I hate red cars and would never buy a red one. What's wrong with him saying he doesn't want a light blue one assuming there are other options?

You could say that it is silly to demand an automatic when you can drive a manual, after all, it takes you from a to b.....

ChillyTilly · 12/11/2008 08:32

YABU - in this current climate there are some serious bargains to be had buying cars. If he doesn't want a light blue car, go and find another one!

I wouldn't want a light blue car.

LazyLinePainterJane · 12/11/2008 09:04

Or yellow. I wouldn't buy a yellow one either.

Or a white one

ChillyTilly · 12/11/2008 09:15

Ooh, not a yellow one!!!

I would 'consider' a white one though! Pita to keep clean though.

Anna8888 · 12/11/2008 09:16

I love the pale blue Fiat 500.

mayorquimby · 12/11/2008 11:30

i wouldn't consider it on the basis of it being an automatic.
yab-a little-U. surely if you are both buting the car you should both be happy with it

Niecie · 12/11/2008 11:37

It is the best value for money because they know few people would want a car that colour. Some colours sell better than others and it does affect resale value.

How can you be 'used' to driving a particular colour car in any case, especially as you can't see if from the inside as you say?

I have never bought a car based on colour, only on price, power and condition.

My first car was brown fgs!!!

uberalice · 12/11/2008 11:39

Some colours do affect the resale value. Perhaps he's concerned that you won't get a good price for it if/when you sell it on?

Niecie · 12/11/2008 11:39

Sorry - got you now. You say you are used to driving an automatic not a light blue car

Have to agree with mayorquimby though - I wouldn't have it because it is automatic. Again, it affects re-sale values as well as being dull to drive (imo).

thumbwitch · 12/11/2008 15:34

niecie - i have had 3 dark green cars in a row now - I can see what you are saying re. driving a particular colour car, but it's easier finding it in the carpark when you are used to looking for a particular colour car. I get quite confused when I have courtesy cars or borrow my Dad's...

melpomene · 12/11/2008 21:00

I read the title as 'blue light car' - I thought you meant one with flashing police lights on top...

Suedonim · 13/11/2008 17:08

Oi, who's dissing yellow cars??? My car's yellow and I chose it to be so. It's a Polo and v cute indeed. The salesman tried to dissuade me from having yellow but all the other colours were either blues, my least fave colour, or drab. He said yellow would have a lower resale value but as I intend to keep it at least 10yrs that matters not a jot to me. Imo, my chariot is perfect.
