to expect to be able to buy red hair clips without having to resort to ebay?

DD starting reception in January. Uniform is red and grey. Found her a pack of red bobbles in M&S but cannot find anywhere a pack of red clips. Yes there are red clips in various shops but they come in a pack - 2 red, 2 pink and 2 lilac. But we have tons of pink and lilac already. Accessorise have two packs of red clips, but not at a price that is sustainable for school wear.

Don't worry I have ordered 12 off Ebay for £2odd inc postage so no need to look for some. Just whinging.

I buy the multipacks and pick out the right-coloured ones

pound shops / Woolies / market stalls are often good for this, or the 'selection' baskets at Claire's where you can rummage around

you will be keeping your eyes open for years now

and start looking now for red gingham ones to go with the summer dresses

And what do you do with the wrong-coloured ones? Thanks to MIL DD has loads of pink bobbles/clips/hairbands.

My other moan is tights. Hardly any shops have any left in age 4-5. And why do you get multipacks all based on one colour - so a plain/patterned/striped set - all lilac. When I want one lilac, one pink and one red? So opposite moan to the hair clip one.

save for weekends (though most packs are red, white and navy/black, so the black and white ones get worn for school too)

Primark 3pk tights are one red, one white, one navy which might help...

Good Heavens, are you sure that the uniform policy that strict ?

The girls at ds's school seem to wear any colour hair bobbles/slides they like.

bozza · 11/11/2008 16:15

The policy might not be that strict but you try telling my DD that?! We always have to have everything matching.

The tights moan was more for the clothes she is wearing atm than the uniform. I had the foresight to buy a four pack of grey tights in August. Four pairs isn't enough, is it?

OMG, it's enough to make me go and cut my DD's hair!

PurplePillow · 11/11/2008 16:21

Go to claire's accessories they have loads.

Seeline · 11/11/2008 16:24

Mothercare usually have packs of red hair accessories along with packs of blue or green - my daughter needs yellow which is almost impossible!

KatieDD · 11/11/2008 19:10

Asda sell them, we have trouble getting navy around here

bozza · 11/11/2008 19:18

Been in Claires and they didn't have any. Or maybe I am rubbish at looking.

Primark is awesome for hairclips

Andthentherewerethree · 11/11/2008 19:22

asda do packs of school coloured clips, the snap ones.

also you could do what i do, i brought a huge pack of plain ones and i cover themm in plain ribbon or gingham ribbon to match the uniform.

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 11/11/2008 19:27

I have seen them at Tesco and Dorothy Perkins recently.

black tights are my moan. I cannot get black tights in any shop size 2/3

bozza · 11/11/2008 20:03

Andthentherewerethree I think that would be beyond me - it took all yesterday evening to take in the elastic on DD's skirt, sew on DS's one swimming badge and hem up one leg of DH's suit.
