Speak to your butcher...

NorthernLurker · 09/11/2008 19:39

When did you buy it and where from?

MingMingtheWonderPet · 09/11/2008 19:40

Where did you buy it from?
I would complain and ask for my money back. I don't think that any supermarket or butcher would have a problem with this.

nickytwotimes · 09/11/2008 19:40

GO veggie?
My nut roast is never off.

Goober · 09/11/2008 19:44

Be fair. It's not the lamb's fault!

EyeballsintheSky · 09/11/2008 19:50

Love the title

alphabetsoup · 09/11/2008 19:56

Not being funny but where can you buy lamb to roast for 12 (or even 8 if you discount the children) for £15 ? Even shoulder as a somewhat cheaper cut would be more £ surely, unless it was a huge whole shoulder ?

That aside, definitely complain in a calm measured way. take the remains with you back to the shop concerned, and in case they brush it under the carpet, send a sample to Env Health too.

we had a chicken from there a few weeks back and that was off - took it back and got money back ( well didn't take chicken in because i didn't want it smelling the car out - it was a putrid smell) Go back and demand a refund.

onepieceoflollipop · 09/11/2008 20:45

Sorry but lol at "it's not the lamb's fault"

Yes, take it back. Ime with Tesco they will give you a refund but might not act that bothered which makes me when there is a problem with the food. I would be inclined to write to them as well perhaps save the label if not too late.

Lots of customers dump chilled food on normal shelves and I suspect that in some shops it gets put back in the fridge eventually. That's my theory how these incidents can occur.

If it's a joint of meat I need, I'm definitely a local butcher girl. I don't mind Tescos or Sainsbury's meat for myself, dh and dd, but if I'm entertaining I go to the butchers. That way I know it's fresh and I usually get a bit of advice on portions (I never know what'll be enough) and on how to cook (our butcher always tells me how long it needs - I usually forget the minute I leave the store, but it makes me feel better )

I bought a piece of lamb for 5 people, a piece of beef for 5 people (it was beautiful, too...the best part of the cow according to the butcher), 4 rashers of smoked back bacon and 6 free range eggs for £25 on Saturday.

I'd expect it to be a decent cut of meat for that money, tbh. I don't think you are bu to be annoyed about the meat, but are annoyed to be fuming at the lamb. As people are saying...it's not the lamb's fault!

debzmb62 · 09/11/2008 23:10

"the poor lamb" --aah so you have some sympathy for him/her now?

thisisyesterday · 10/11/2008 21:32

tesco are VILE for meat. I have had to return meat many a time to them.
they were also fined, big time, a while back for their manky meat.

their "fresh" fruit and veg isn't up to much either.

MsPontipine · 10/11/2008 21:32

Wow £50's not bad! Did you really kick up a stink or was it there standard procedure??

debzmb62 · 11/11/2008 10:07

onepieceoflollipop · 11/11/2008 10:34

Aldi do a special offer on fruit and veg every month - 5 items for 69p each. (you don't have to buy all 5 btw)

For example we got a big (500g at least)tub of grapes for 69p. Also 6 or 8 kiwis for the same price. Some of it is British, some not. (not the kiwis or grapes I imagine. )
