To loathe christmas trees... well not really but I do...in a way

Just thinking about it last night I have a christmas tree and all my decorations in the cupboard and have just realised I hate all the faff with the bloody things!

I spend half an hour putting the darn thing up then another hour or so decorating it then spend the next 2 weeks hoovering up bits and telling DS to stop pulling at it! ARGH whats the bloomin point.

My DS is 2.5YO do you think it'd just be evil to either do away with tree or buy a little one until he's older.

I am the opposite I absolutely love getting a tree and decorating it. I even go to my parents house and do theirs.

When my DC (who are nearly 6) were younger I did get a smaller tree which I put on a table pretty much out of reach. I think you should get one even if its just a small one.

This year we are back to a big tree - can't wait!

I adore christmas and all that goes with it but agree about the whole trauma of dragging all stuff out and putting it up only to be put away again a few weeks later

am thinking of putting it all up and leaving it up permanently from now on!!!

pmsl
sory love christmas and decoratin the tree etc..the trio adore christmas time and the tree especially so think would be cruel not to have it..

The smell of pine in the house is lovely. I like christmas trees. I don't like to have them hanging around for more than 2 weeks, 3 at a push though. We never buy one until the last weekend before christmas. It feels more special if it is not up too long.

elsiepiddock · 09/11/2008 13:21

I'm with themoon66. We get ours around the 20th and take it down on about the 3rd.

I love it and the smell, but couldn't abide having it up for any longer.

I also do a huge 'swag' of holly and ivy etc above the fireplace and that would be really manky after 3 weeks!

Love the whole tree thing until boxing day and then I have to grit my teeth a bit. We are getting a wee one this year to go on a table because 9 month old ds.....'nuff said!

cheshirekitty · 09/11/2008 13:52

John Lewis has upside down christmas trees. Whats that all about?

(CK feeling very old and not with it)

dizzydixies · 09/11/2008 14:12

we got married on the 27th Dec so we especially love it, gave away our fake tree and indulged in a real one last year and think we'll be doing the same

CK I saw that last year and wondered too - maybe for more room underneath for presents?!?

expatinscotland · 09/11/2008 14:14

i love our fake one from Woolies.

dizzydixies · 09/11/2008 14:17

our fake tree was 12yrs old and looking a little bit sad but the nursery were very grateful and we thought we'd give a real one a whirl
