went to put ds' name down for nursery. i rang up yesterday and they asked me to go up to fill the form in. fair enough so off i trot this morning to do just that. when i get there she just asks me all the questions and fills it in herself. could i not have done that over the phone!!

so we are going through all the details and she goes "husband's name." So i say oh i haven't got one. I looked on the form at it said partner yes/no partner's name. She didn't bother to then ask if i did have a partner and it was just that we weren't married. If it says partner you don't just assume everyone is married and makes them your husband.

Also shouldn't it say father rather than partner? not everyone's partner is necessarily the father of their child.

I wasn't angry or anything just a tiny bit annoyed and felt sorry for other people who might have been more upset by it and that it would be more tactful to ask if there is a partner before jumping in and asking loads of questions about them.

YANBU. I would expect a school staff member to be a bit more clued up about such stuff.

It was an oversubscribed school wasn't it? It sounds suspiciously like you were being selected.

And you always thought you were the one to do the choosing.

Anyway, report to the LEA. Sounds illegal to me.
