Liffy i'll now tell you something really scary......your 'mate' AA is planning on becoming a councellor my god I hope she never gets any single mums as her clients!.
I really do take my hat off to you if you've come outta an abusive relationship AND you're also bringing up a child with special needs...maybe AA thinks you should go back to work and put your SN child into residential care Oh but hang on would'nt that cost the government a hell of alot more money than the pittance you now have to live on?..Damned if you do..... I have a severely disabled DD who has just come outta Hospital following major surgery. She still needs my constant care at this time of night! . I'm sick to daeth of certain MNs taring every Lone parent with the same brush. I have raised my 2 kids for 12 years now and they make me very proud, my son is a 24 year old workaholic and has worked sinse he was 13 [paper round] my DD has just got 3 distinctions in her exams and is now at college. As their only parent I can only assume that I have been a good role model Oh and both my kids have NEVER been in trouble with the law. I now have the free time with my daughter away at college and I'm actively seeking employment as a FULLY PAID full time carer and I'll undoubtedly get a damn sight more than I have done from the Government as a SAH carer AND it won't be for 24 hours a day so...AA if you promise not to give me councelling I, in turn promise not to be your carer!!

salsmum · 08/11/2008 00:42

OOps that should have said sick to death not daeth.

VictorianSqualor · 08/11/2008 00:52

By 'AA' do you mean anarchyaunt? Just to clarify.

And FWIW, I've been a single parent and a parent in a step-relationship and a biological relationship. Single parents have it shit, IMO. Even something that seems as simple as 'Can you do bath tonight, I'm knackered' is lost.

My respects to single parents.

salsmum · 08/11/2008 02:17

Vs, Yes I do I can't believe what a hard time she was giving some of these MNs . I'ts now early hours, my back is breaking where I've hoisted my DD into bed! whilst all the time trying to keep the mood light for my DD because I don't want her to feel guilty that shes unable to 'do stuff for herself'.
I don't want praise or Mum of the year award . It's just that I get really hacked off when some MNs make sweeping generalisations about ALL lone parents/single mums without looking at the bigger picture i.e. how they came to be in that situation, death of DP/DH etc...lets hope to god the 'judgy pants' on here never find themselves in that position .

Oh I'm proud alright.

But it is hard to carry on holding your head high when you hear shit about scrounging sperm stealing single mums on a daily basis. I do get very tired of feeling like I should somehow justify my existence.

I read that as her sticking up for single mums. Have I missed something?

salsmum · 08/11/2008 10:28

VS Thanks for pointing that out I'm really so sorry AnarchyAunt it was'nt you it was Angelswithdirtyfaces please forgive me but in my cheap cider induced coma, with the police sirens in the background whilst I was counting out my giro money to put some aside for my holiday to Lanzarote... I got the names mixed up . x

AnarchyAunt · 08/11/2008 17:51

When I get me social loan through (told 'em it was for shoes for DD) I shall be going to Lanzarote on the pull so I'll look out for you

Liffey · 08/11/2008 17:58

Phew thank goodness it is AnarchyAunt becoming a counsellor (good for you AA!).

I think there would be preliminary empathy and intelligence tests which would weed out contenders such as Angelswithdirtyfaces! The mind boggles at the notion of turning up for a counselling session and getting a ton of abuse!!!
