Measles-anyone have any experience of it?

My daughters are not vaccinated and there is a measles outbreak here.We have agonised over vaccination and so far we have opted out but measles does frighten me,and reactions vary,my GP is naturally very pro vaccination, the homoeopath I spoke to feels differently,I have been to several lectures about vaccination and I still can't decide.DH is thinking maybe we should give the girls the single vaccine.Does anyone have any experience of measles? How bad can it get? I had it as a child, everyone did,but I don't really remember what it was like.

My friend caught chickenpox during pregnancy. Her son was born wih chickenpox and it has had significant long term effects on his health. This would seem to me to be a good reason to vaccinate women who haven't had it by their teens.

Just came onto this thread so orry if this has been asked already but (maybe emma1977 might know)
Ds had mmr at 13mths then developed measles, he was v. poorly with spots in his eyes ears mouth etc. After his eventusl recovery I am still wondering about lasting effects and complications even though he is now 12yrs (yes am I too pfb or what)
But HOW do you know, I keep hearing about weak heart or lungs or immune system and, I know it is a serious disease how do I know he hasn't been affected? Or feel free to tell me to just get a grip.
