To want to smash up DH's 'model' (or at least throw it away)

My DH decided a few months back to make a 'model' of a boat in a canal. It was just something for him to do I suppose but I hate it he's used cardboard for the boat house with "brick effect" wallpaper, stuck a scraggy bit of blue paper in for the water and basically its just a mess but he's displaying it on the cabinet in the dining room as though it's an ornament. I hate it, my friend came over yesterday, took one look at it and said "aww thats so cute, did he do it at school?" thinking DS had made it. How the hell could I say "actually, DH made it" so I just nodded and hoped to god she didn't mention it to DS.

AIBU?

could it have an "accident", while you were dusting?

CarmerKharma · 05/11/2008 11:00

well that's what I planned to do but I don't think it would break if it simply fell off the cabinet as its just cardboard and paper. I did think about giving it to the dog to rip up but I feel guilty because he has spent hours on it and I'd probably start laughing when I broke the news to him, so giving the game away.

Could you confide in your friend and arrange for her to innocently ask 'Did DS do that at school aww' when your DH is in the room?
Might embarrass him lol

GypsyMoth · 05/11/2008 11:19

water damage? accidentally of course!

sunnygirl1412 · 05/11/2008 11:38

I'd go with 2point4kids' suggestion myself!

stick it in the attic

doesn't he have a SHED?

Ronaldinhio · 05/11/2008 11:41

I think an accident is too easy

Merciless teasing about it's shitness is much more appropriate and more likely to prevent him making another

yabu, sorry! why not encourage him to make something else, with any luck he will replace it with the new thing - the London Eye in matchsticks or something

CarmerKharma · 05/11/2008 11:46

Because he's shit at making stuff choosyfloosy, everything he makes just looks a mess. It's so annoying.

Couldn't you suggest to DP that DS would really love to learn how to make models too, and maybe they could spend the day together creating some other paper 'masterpieces'. Yes, you'll end up with a whole heap more of the bl**dy things, but on the upside you get both of them out of your hair, and if visitors comment on them at least you can legitimately say DS made it. Small price to pay, I reckon!

Or you could just say you want to keep it in a box in the attic for safe keeping, because you'd HATE to see it get damaged.

This sounds familiar carmer
