ghastly frou-frou for people who keep teddies on their bed & name their bits eg mrs miffy

Cupofteaplease · 03/11/2008 18:47

Hmm, I like it.

Slightly off topic: I posted on another topic about making bunting for my dds' parties in the summer which had polkadots and cupcakes on- somebody picked up on this, in a mocking way...

Is this something that MNetters don't like on the whole? Much like Boden, or so it seems...

Genuine question!

Waltzywotzy · 03/11/2008 18:56

It would be terrible if we all liked the same thing. Choice is good. I like all the things in my friends house, but I wouldn't want all those things in my house, probably visa versa for her too.

Troutpout · 03/11/2008 19:15

i like some of it...but aggree that you can get just as good patterns and designs elsewhere and for 1/4 of the price.

MrsMattie · 03/11/2008 19:16

It's hideous. I would never buy it. Polka dots. Pink and yellow. Urgh. It's wrong.

izyboy · 03/11/2008 19:27

Yep I like quite a bit of it but I own nothing of hers. I happened to read an article about her house (the one, I think, in the Cotswolds) - it really wasnt chinzy and probably her stuff is meant to be taken in small doses - a mix n' match look - with other stuff. Certainly this is what the interior of that particular house seemed to reflect.

trolltrolltroll · 03/11/2008 19:31

I have an apron which males me feel like doing the housework - too much def bad, but someone bought me kids plastic bowl and spoons and we use them first out of the cupboard always. CUTE!

trolltrolltroll · 03/11/2008 19:32

cupcakes on bunting for a little girl's birthday lovely

wahwah · 03/11/2008 19:41

btw, what are cupcakes? Ate they the US version of fairy cakes, or something different?

modernart · 03/11/2008 19:41

Not to my taste

carpetwiggle · 03/11/2008 19:45

I think I might like it if the dominant colours weren't red and pink with something else - there's just too much red IMO.

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 03/11/2008 19:46

I like the prints - I love pattern and I love retro and have never got the hang of minimalism. I want to live in Liberty's - but agree that too much CC can be rather overpowering.

poppy34 · 03/11/2008 20:24

toobusytothink - I think its the particular style she goes for that I am not a fan of rather than brands pre se (says it quietly but .. I quite like boden and john lewis)... but it is very expensive for what it is (and have same issue with emma bridgewater )

cupoftea bunting cupcake was a joke phrase that started on a thread about articles in papesr/magazines about people who start a business at home doing retro furnishing, organic babyfood etc whilst bringing up 4 children and running 2 homes (will try adn find link) -was tongue in cheek phrase to cover it.

Cupofteaplease · 03/11/2008 20:35

Thanks for the explaination Poppy! Would like to see the link!!

Starbear · 03/11/2008 20:40

It makes me think of Harry Enfield's shop 'I saw you coming' or 'Wank' or 'blondes of a certain age' PMSL

jenk1 · 03/11/2008 20:41

i love it,i have 2 oilcloths which were bought in the sale, the kids paint, colour, draw, bake,do play doh you name it and they wipe really clean, well worth the money IMO.

i want something CK for xmas too.

Lauriefairycake · 03/11/2008 20:43

I love the stuff. But then I have a tiny cottage which suits the shabby shit chic.

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 03/11/2008 20:51

I have an unkempt house which also falls naturally into the shabby stylee.

ScottishMummy · 03/11/2008 20:56

jenk what is an oil cloth?

Lauriefairycake · 03/11/2008 21:00

oil cloth is prettily patterned plastic cloth, very durable, wipeable, hard wearing (popular in 50's now uber-popular)

and £15 a metre at Cath Kidston in Bicester shopping village

pointydog · 03/11/2008 21:01

is old hat

ScottishMummy · 03/11/2008 21:02

Ta LFC

Pawslikepaddington · 03/11/2008 21:02

I love her and have her interior designs book (rah rah). Do shove it all in lounge/dd's room though!

Pawslikepaddington · 03/11/2008 21:06

And by "all" I mean knitting bag, knitting needle wrap and bunting (bunting for dd's room!). Have found my own shabby chic retro style tho and make my own aprons/drawer covers/washing bags etc out of fat quarters-much cheaper!

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 03/11/2008 21:19

OK. Now I have to ask

  1. what is a knitting needle wrap?
  1. why is a fat quarter so named? a quarter of what? and why does it have weight ishoos?
