that it is

a. not hallowe'en

and

b. anoraks with the hoods up does not count as fancy dress.

they did hold their arms out in the ime-honoured michael jackson 'zombie' tradition, but that was it...

i then shut the door, and am now wondering if my house is going to get firebombed/ egged/ graffitied. should i have ransacked the cupboards in order to find chocolate or similar? i do make sure i've got something in a bowl on hallowe'en ffs, but not a whole day early.

but it is raining, so surely they'll just go home...?

was i being unreasonable?

guising is for Halloween ONLY imo, any earlier/later and they should be expected to be told to f off.

LadyLaGore · 30/10/2008 18:25

yanbu
wrong day, dumbo's!

piratecat · 30/10/2008 18:27

lol at anoraks, they prob needed a few quid for some fags.!!

i am not looking forward to 2moro, my dd is tertified of callers. should i put up a sign, or will that make it worse??

Liffey · 30/10/2008 18:31

Can be scary too. I answered door last year to two anoraked 6 footers with masks on. Quite alarmed I was. THey took their masks off, and fair enough they were actually only about 14, but I thought they were going to murder me and rob the tv, not ask for nuts and apples.

FAR too old (or maybe too tall) for masks..

BONKinthenightERZ · 30/10/2008 18:34

we put a note up inviting trick or treaters to knock only if they are dressed up and under the age of 11!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! although round here it is actually classed as trespassing if someone trick or treats your house and they do not know you. the schools have all sent letters home stating the children should only knock on doors of people they know or they run the risk of being anti social! the local PCOs have promised to be doing the rounds tomorrow night to protect us from the 14 year olds!

Romy7 · 30/10/2008 18:36

lol liffey - i shut the door with a frowsty cats bottom face on and then thought 'oh f, what have i done?'

piratecat, once the dcs are in bed i leave a bowl of sweets on the doorstep with a sign saying help yourself but please leave some for the next witch, and please sssh as little people sleeping. it's worked a treat (ha) so far...

except now i'm terrified the big lads are going to come back tomorrow and nick the bowl.

Tortington · 30/10/2008 18:36

teenagers unless acompanying younger brother or sister should not trick or treat, they are menacing without meaning to be.

for such ocasions hand out tangerines

save the good stuf for the littlies who come

CatIsSleepy · 30/10/2008 18:40

yeah my mum got scared out of her wits by a bunch of teenagers in masks one Halloween a while back
she won't open her door to anyone on halloween now!

clam · 30/10/2008 18:41

YANBU. DH says I'm a miserable old witch for insisting any carol singers sing all verses of a carol, not including 'We wish you a merry Christmas.' And that they're collecting for a named charity with the official collecting tin.

pointygravedogger · 30/10/2008 18:47

lol @ anoraks with hoods up.

The chancers.

wheresthehamster · 30/10/2008 18:50

I wouldn't upset them. Make a joke and say come back tomorrow and at least make an effort!

expatinscotland · 30/10/2008 18:50

when we had this problem on some dire estate, i made sure i was outside in the front doing some target practice with a bebe gun.

i'm a good shot, too, with lots of practice!

i just kept lining up tin cans and peggin' 'em and said autumn was hunting/killing season in my best Texas accent.

no one egged or fucked with our house at all.

wheresthehamster · 30/10/2008 18:51

I meant the chancers make an effort not you!

pointygravedogger · 30/10/2008 18:52

expat, you radge

MissAnthrope · 30/10/2008 18:54

YANBU.

I've had 3 teens in masks knock on the door this evening and yell 'trick or treat'. Hadn't been expecting them as not only is it not halloween, but I live in a secure building that they shouldn't be able to get into!

Told them to naff off and they were not impressed.

Seriously though... who lets their kids go out trick or treating on the wrong day?
