Over my time using mumsnet, i have been entertained, moved, advised, supported, kicked up the arse, shocked, judged, addicted, challenged, soothed, calmed, helped, overwhelmed by the kindness of others.

Yes, we get a bit carried away on the old AIBU forum, but it doesnt take one long to learn that you are inviting dissent by posting on this section of hte board. We might even come here looking for a ruck, go on admit it, sometimes its good to rant and have that rant challenged, provoking futher ranting.

For me, nothing has changed, apart from the loss of a few familiar names

But personalities clash sometimes. What is wrong with that? I don't get it when people get exasperated about that.

I think that's a bit of strange sentiment tbh. I've run into a few scrapes here over the year. I like the site, but I do find some posters a bit harder on the nerves than others. But that doesn't mean that I'd be better suited to some other board where everybody is nice? Anyway, are they?? They just stumbled onto that board first, that's all I bet.

There may be a slightly different atmosphere on that board, never been on it, so I don't know, but I don't think that there should be a menacing undercurrant of "if you don't like it here fcuk off to netmums where the simpering thickos post!"

I am addicted to this site. It feels like I've moved into a new area where there are lots of friendly people. Thank god for the internet and mumsnet.

Liffey, it's not so much about the posters on NetMums but the policies. Most of the threads on here would be closed downw, posts deleted and members banned. They have to get on or else! It's not just NetMums, but I think people mention that one for the name, most boards are the same. I've found though that this is the only board where people genuinely want feeding or weaning advice and aren't scared to give it - maybe the policy here allows people to be more honest and open.

NannyNanny cod is/was a prolific poster who left a few weeks ago. She was great fun and very popular. A few regular posters have left in the last few weeks also.

Mumsnet is part of real life - I don't buy this stuff about the two things being different. We are all real people sitting typing these messages. And just like everything else in life, it doesn't stay the same. Whether that's a good thing or not is irrelevant, it can't stay the same. It is what it is, a mixture of things - wonderful advice and support forum, someone to chat to when you're bored or isolated, a good laugh, or sometimes a bitchfest. You use the bits you like and ignore the bits you don't. It's a public forum - it doesn't belong to the oldies or the newbies or anyone really, it's its own entity and there is no sense anyone trying to keep it the same or complaining that it doesn't meet their expectations. It's like trying to control who goes into Asda when you're there or who frequents your local cinema. It is what it is. Use it as you wish or don't use it - but you can't change it.

Personally I agree with the OP, that it's still a fantastically good resource. I've made many friends from the site and it's especially useful for me as an expat, that there is always someone to chat with. If I see threads I don't like I don't need to go on them.
