to think nanny ought not to let dd hit another child

DH tells me tonight that nanny said that DD has for the second time this week hit some child. DD is only 2 but has pushed a couple of kids at playgroup and they have said they dont want to play with her now. DD is very boisterous but AIBU to think that nanny should have some control other than to make DD say sorry to other child. Does not sound to me like that will stop the problem. DH wants me to send DD to nursery so that nanny can concentrate on baby DS but that will cost twice as much money - nto sensible move at the moment. Is handling DD that difficult and shouldn't nanny be able to keep some discipline?

They should yes but does she know that she is expected to discipline your child, has she experience of doing so.
I had the nanny from hell recently so am a bit down on them at the moment and remembered why my first 2 went to nursery.

well all kids go through phases of hitting or pushing etc.
unless your nanny is shadowing dd at all times then it's quite hard for her to physically stop dd from doing it.

I wouldn't be overly worried

Is your DD always impeccably behaved when you look after her? If so, YANBU. If not, YABU. The nanny is telling you about the incident so isn't hiding anything. Perhaps you, your DH & she should sit down and work out ground rules for behaviour and discipline.

I am surprised you have not already discussed the methods of discipline you want the nanny to enforce.
Isn't that your decision to make, as the parent?
What else would you like the nanny to do apart from ask your 2 year old to say sorry if she hurts another child?

It can be extremely hard to foresee exactly when a small child is going to lash out and stop them in time. Unless you are 100% certain that you would be able to do this at all times at playgroup, I would cut her some slack.
