to think it's inappropriate for a 4 year old boy to be wearing an earring to school?

Because I do. Maybe I should go off and read the Daily Mail but it just seems inappropriate at that age.

i think its fine - especially hooped ones, to go with gelled up hair

harpomarx · 20/10/2008 22:36

wouldn't bother me. But I expect I am in the minority.

innapropriate health and saftey issue.

Not my cup of tea but not really for anyone to say what other people do with their children....

FimboGotAxed · 20/10/2008 22:39

YANBU. I agree, boy in ds's class has one. (also 4).

Ds announced today that he wants to go to school tomorrow with spiked hair. Luckily he doesn't have suitable hair.

MsHighwater · 20/10/2008 22:40

YANBU. You also wouldn't have been unreasonable if you'd stopped your title before the last 2 words.

Would you feel the same way about a 4yo girl wearing an earring?

Monkeyblue · 20/10/2008 22:41

ÃŽts not what I would let DS do
But each to their own

2shoesdrippingwithblood · 20/10/2008 22:41

has he got tats as well?

PeaMcLean · 20/10/2008 22:42

Depends on the earring. Hoops would be a problem.

Otherwise, whilst I don't like them, it's really not your business.

Aero · 20/10/2008 22:42

No more so than a four year old girl wearing earrings.

Don't like them myself on any small child, but dd has been asking me (with a resounding negative response) to have her's pierced since she was about five. I've agreed to think about it for next summer - she will be nine then and I think, old enough to be responsible for looking after them, but it really will depend on whether I think she's ready.

Monkeyblue · 20/10/2008 22:42

And long hair tied back

FrayedKnot · 20/10/2008 22:43

PMSL at "suitable hair" Fimbo

I must remember that one...DS has unsuitable hair also

IdrisTheDragon · 20/10/2008 22:43

It would bother me equally for a girl or a boy

chipmunkswhereareyou · 21/10/2008 09:41

I don't even know what exactly it is that bothers me about it to be honest.

I can't help wondering in a curious way as to whether it was his idea or his parents' idea.

Ummm Chipmunkswhereareyou. When you stare at little girls earrings does that bother you as well or is it just boys

Tidey · 21/10/2008 10:00

I don't like earrings on young children, whether they are a girl or a boy. DS (nearly 7) has a friend with an earring, but he's never asked if he could get one thankfully. DD is only 1, so I expect I've got arguments about earrings to forward to.

pudding25 · 21/10/2008 10:01

I think it is cheap and nasty for little children to have their ears pierced, girls or boys. It is also a big h&s hazard at school if they are wearing dangly earrings.

sellorrenovate · 21/10/2008 10:02

I don't think any 4 year old should have an earing, boy or girl.

LouMacca · 21/10/2008 10:09

YANBU. agree 100% with sellorrenovate

stitch · 21/10/2008 10:20

the sex of the child is unimportant. no four year old should be wearing an ear ring to school

LouMacca · 21/10/2008 10:22

I'm actually amazed that the school would allow a 4 year old to wear an earring. It was made quite clear that no pre-school/reception children were allowed pierced ears at my DCs school.
