To ask someone to change a party date

Invitations came out today from DS's friend for a party 8 days after ds's friends birthday but on my DS actual birthday we haven't sent out invites but have book something should I ask them to change dates don't want to share

hmmm... if they've sent out all their invitations then it will be a right pain for them to change the date. CAn you not have yours the day after, or a couple of days before his birthday?

My dd's birthday is in January, the same as another child at her preschool last year. The other child's mother sent me a note weeks ahead as obviously a specific date was important to her and she didn't want us to clash. Obviously that suggestion is too late for you this year.

Why should they change, given that they were organised enough to have sent their invitations out first?

I'd be pretty pissed off if you expected me to change a party date just because you hadn't been quick enough off the mark.

I'd say YABU. I held DS1's party the day after his birthday as his friend had the same birthday, and I didn't think that it was fair to have a party with all of DS1's friends (and this boys friends) on that day. The other boy wasn't having a party & the other mum didn't say anything about a party share. He came to DS1's party the following day. However, the other mother might not have known about your DS's birthday, and obviously was unaware that you'd booked somewhere.

No, they have sent out the invites now. Just like if you had sent your invites out first it would have been wrong of them to ask you to change.

Next year discuss dates in advance. There are 5 boys in ds's class who have birthdays in a three week period and we have to liaise in the run-up

dd's birthday is the 22nd, her friend is the 19th. we always discuss who's having which weekend.

Children's parties don't last all day - just organise yours at a different time of day.

Change your date. Kids have to get used to not having their parties on their birthdays for all sorts of reasons. Explain to your DS that it will just make his birthday last longer.

DS's birthday is in September, decided to book a laser party for him, only to find out another boy was having a party at same place an hour before, with some of the same children.
Spoke to his mum and she agreed we could have a joint party, however venue said it wasn't possible. I ended up postponing DS's party until November. He was happy as it was like having a second birthday. He had another party on Halloween as his "late" birthday!

Helps me out as well as Me, DS and DD have our birthdays within a week, joint parties were fine when they were little , but now they are older it's not so easy.
