To not want to get ds' hair cut?

theSuburbanDryad · 17/10/2008 20:03

Ds will be 2 in Jan, and has quite a lot very fine, flyaway hair. Dh is insisting that we get it cut as it's in his eyes - but it isn't, so long as we brush it to the side.

I really don't want to get his hair cut, it's so lovely as it is and i think he would find going to a barber's quite traumatic.

no don't cut it - or if you have to just trim the fringe. i love longer hair on little boys, it looks cute. I stupidly cut all my ds2's curls off when he was about 2.....big mistake... but its grown again now.

LazyLinePainterJane · 17/10/2008 20:09

If you don't want to cut it don't, but there is no reason not to get it trimmed to keep it in nice condition. If it is going to be longer it really should be in a style and it will do him no harm to get used to going to the barbers.

MyPumpkinDsHappyHalloweenBday · 17/10/2008 20:11

What length do you leave their hair, I saw a boy 2ish as playgroup and his mum had put a slide in to keep it from his eyes. I really had to look at his clothes to see if he was boy or girl.

sorry I like my ds with short hair, not fussed on long hair for boys although they do look cute. they should be boys.

theSuburbanDryad · 17/10/2008 20:12

He doesn't have curls () but I don't want him to look too grown up yet.

He's only 21 months - he's still a baby...

I am being PFB aren't i?

trim his fringe .. it's unfair not to

the rest is up to you

littleboo · 17/10/2008 20:16

don't like it too long - not long in a girly way, more of "cool surf type way" if you can picture it

giddykipper · 17/10/2008 20:17

I'm the same but I do trim his fringe to keep it out of his eyes. He has lovely flowing curls , far nicer hair than mine.

theSuburbanDryad · 17/10/2008 20:19

Here he is from the side so you can see the length at the back.

From the top

From the front

I cut my 17 mo old ds hair the other day, just snipped at it and trimmed it, as someone had called him a girl ! (he is SO not a girl, if you could see his face!)
Anyway, the curls are still there, just tamed and shortened slightly, I like it longer, but don't want it all round his shoulders or all over his eyes, so I will cut it whenever it reaches that level !

RhinestoneCowghoul · 17/10/2008 20:21

I love DS's blondy curliness - I do trim his fringe regularly, and did give him a bit of a tidy-up recently as ends were getting a bit straggly (he's 2.3 yrs). I'm too frugal to take him to the barbers

Don't really care if strangers think he's a girl...

theSuburbanDryad · 17/10/2008 20:22

But Twig...it's not really in his eyes! I don't think so, anyway. Have a look at the pics, see what you think.

yes cut fringe. get you both used to it because if you have ideas about hair rather than just clipping it (practical but not always flattering) then you will have to do it yourself. alas he will then have a mullet which will force you into action.

ds (3.6) also has very fine straight hair (and blond) so would look like a tiny chick if it were too short. his hair gets really tangled if long though so he has a pageboy thing. i have had to learn how to do it and can even layer now.

giddykipper · 17/10/2008 20:23

Definitely leave it as it is, step away from the scissors.

theSuburbanDryad · 17/10/2008 20:24

Doesn't he look like He-Man though, fishie?

Bloodandchatkins · 17/10/2008 20:24

Have just looked at pics - he is fine !
Ds's hair was way longer than that, he had a mini white blonde afro !

SheikYerbouti · 17/10/2008 20:27

Have a look at my profile - both of mine have had long hair (although, DS1 has had a hair cut since - and now has the hairdo of Shaggy from Scooby Doo)

DS2's hair is mental

I like boys with long hair

mehdismummy · 17/10/2008 20:28

leave my boys hair alone, it looks fine and he is very cute, i shall smack your bum if you touch it, he does not look like a , it is not too long. no no no no no no (ps kiss him for me)

theSuburbanDryad · 17/10/2008 20:32

Sheiky - your kids look sooo cute! I love seeing boys with long flowing hair, i don't really care if people think he's a girl. Bearing in mind i had someone come up to me when he was in his BLUE buggy with BLUE trousers and a BLUE coat and BLUE shoes (and not much hair at all) and ask me, "How old is she?!"

OP posts:
theSuburbanDryad · 17/10/2008 20:34

MM - stop cutting your ds' hair then! He looks so cute with his curls (and not at all like Shaft! )

giddykipper · 17/10/2008 20:36

There's some pics of DS's curls on my profile too (from about 4 months ago so longer now)

Twiglett · 17/10/2008 20:38

looks like it's in his eyes to me

you just need to snip it a couple of mms shorter that's all .. it won't change anything apart from flyaway strands in his eyes

mehdismummy · 17/10/2008 20:44

sud he does too and you are very silly!!!

theSuburbanDryad · 17/10/2008 20:45

He won't even let me cut his toenails though - how am I supposed to cut his hair?!?

OP posts:
giddykipper · 17/10/2008 20:47

In his sleep? In the bath?
