To not want to get ds' hair cut?

theSuburbanDryad · 17/10/2008 20:03

Ds will be 2 in Jan, and has quite a lot very fine, flyaway hair. Dh is insisting that we get it cut as it's in his eyes - but it isn't, so long as we brush it to the side.

I really don't want to get his hair cut, it's so lovely as it is and i think he would find going to a barber's quite traumatic.

Awwwww he is a real cutie, LOL at the pics from every angle.

His hair looks fine to me.

CoteDAzur · 26/11/2008 12:37

Have you ever cut/trimmed his hair?

If you do, even once, you will see that his hair won't be so fine & flyaway anymore. No need to go to a barber for this, by the way, as you can do it just as well.

onthewarpath · 26/11/2008 13:05

Just trimm the tiny bit of fringe that is in his eye when he is asleep, the rest is fine ( BTW the fringe is fine too IMO but if it does bother him or make him squint...) . You have a beautiful DS TheSuburbanDryad, and your DCs are gorgeous too SheikYerbouty.

My 2 Ds had very curly hair, lovely hair may I add they both choose to have them cut when they started school and have now very boring hairdos and their hair are nor even growing curly anymore I relly regret this first cut.

cornflakegirl · 26/11/2008 13:14

Small hijack - but can anyone recommend how I can learn to cut DS's hair? He also has beautiful fine blond hair, and I like it messy and surferish. I had been cutting it myself, but made a bad job and got a mobile hairdresser to have a go, and she made it quite short and neat. It's grown again, but I'm not sure how to go about keeping it deliberately messy?

Back on topic - ask him if the hair is getting in his eyes?

OrmIrian · 26/11/2008 13:17

Don't cut it then. Or could you cut the fringe?

DS#1 is 11 and has long hair He loves it.

cheesesarnie · 26/11/2008 13:22

its not really that long.id trim front as wispy bits might go in his eyes.

i found first cut hard!i'll find pic of ds2 before haircut.

cheesesarnie · 26/11/2008 13:23

orm your dc are so lovely!

TeenyTinyTorya · 26/11/2008 13:26

Don't cut it - dh keeps trying to convince me to cut ds's hair, but I like him all lovely and fluffy!

ChopsTheDuck · 26/11/2008 13:28

what hair?! He doesn't have hardly any, leave him alone!

boys do look nicer witha bit of hair. my oldest has terribly sticky out ears so has longer hair to cover that. My youngest has beautifully shiny thick hair which I cut short once and instantly regreted it.

Only my middle one has short hair because he has hair that is thick and wirey, and it is not nice long. We did actually shave his off too (for religious reasons), and it didn't improve anything, he jsut stayed bald for weeks then started growing wire wool again.

OrmIrian · 26/11/2008 13:29

Thanks cheesesarnie

thenewme · 26/11/2008 13:33

Have looked at the photos. Very cute.

I would get it tided up and make sure the hair dresser knows to take the absolute minimum off.

cheesesarnie · 26/11/2008 13:51

right put pic of ds2 on pre haircut.did get bit mad and ended up with a bob as i kept trimming front

TeenyTinyTorya · 26/11/2008 15:01

Pics on my profile of ds with his long hair - it's not really long yet, just a bit fluffy round the edges

hambo · 26/11/2008 15:05

I think his hair is grand, not too long at all!! He is gorgeous by the way..

mindalina · 26/11/2008 15:17

Oh, we have just had this with my DS, who is almost exactly the same age as yours. (When is your DS's birthday, just out of nosiness?) He has the most adorable curls, people often describe him as looking like a cherub and I was adamant I would NEVER EVER cut his hair. Sadly where the ends are baby hair they are so fine and wispy a lot of his hair got really matted and he had started to get annoyed by his fringe - you'd see him pushing it off his face all the time. Sooo... DP put his foot down (haha yeah whatever) and said he must have a trim or else he'd end up with dreadlocks - probably not a good look on an almost two year old

Anyway, to the point - on Saturday DP sat DS in the highchair with a chocolate biscuit (figured the hairdressers would be a bit traumatic), and snipped away at the ends until I was a quivering wreck and had to hide in the kitchen. DS actually looks even lovelier than before, DP made sure not to lose much of the length, he's literally just taken the ends off and trimmed his fringe so it's not in his eyes anymore. DS is much happier now he's not pushing his hair off his face all the time and has been proudly telling all and sundry that he's had a "hiccup" So it's not nearly bad as I thought it would be.

Epic and mostly unrelated tale aside, your DS's hair is really very sweet and lovely and if it's not bothering him, there's no need to cut it. If it's really bothering your DH, maybe he could just trim the very ends of DS's fringe so it's definitely not in his eyes?

princessmel · 26/11/2008 15:21

Deffo not too long atm .

TeenyTinyTorya · 26/11/2008 15:21

Cheesesarnie - your ds's hair is gorgeous

nappyaddict · 26/11/2008 16:13

cheesesarnie - put one up post hair cut

TTT - your profile isn't visible.

TeenyTinyTorya · 26/11/2008 17:42

Is that visible now, NA?

nappyaddict · 26/11/2008 17:50

Yes What you on about your DS' hair is short

TeenyTinyTorya · 26/11/2008 17:55

Not to dh - the top picture shows its current overgrown state. I would hate ds to have a short back and sides, but dh would much prefer it. I like the fluffy bits! I can also give him a topknot and bunches if I want to

MsPontipine · 26/11/2008 17:57

He is absolutely gorgeous and so's his hair - it's only baby hair like my ds's at his age - just snip a bit off the fringe if you think it's in his eyes but that's all.

Lotster · 26/11/2008 18:18

Leeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaave it!

My 2 year old boy has blonde curls, only been mistaken for a girl twice, doesn't bother me, hopefully it means he's pretty! Worse the other way around.

Watch your husband like a hawk - especially at bathtime if he does it, that's when they are most tempted to take matters in to their own hands, behind your back. Happened in this house a couple of times and I found the evidence in the bin.

Ashantai · 26/11/2008 20:56

Keep it long! I lurve long hair on boys and will cry for a week when my son finally utters the dreaded words "mum i want to cut my hair"

He's 5 and is mixed race so his long flowing locks suit him perfectly. Even when he does want it cut, its gonna be more of a trim
