For the past 2 weeks or more, they've been phoning me 4 or 5 times a day AT LEAST, on my home no AND on my mobile no.

I think they got my details from an Affiliate credit card.

They won't speak to me unless I confirm my identity. I refuse to confirm my identity until they confirm THEIR identity and why they want to speak to me!

I told them in no uncertain terms to STOP PHONING ME yesterday, and they are STILL at it! I have said if it is important, put it in writing to me! Half the time the call gets cut off before I answer anyway!

I plan to cancel the affiliate card, but WHY WONT THEY GO AWAY? Its pointless telling the Telephone Preference Service because nothing ever seems to happen.

I'm now tempted to keep a whistle by the phone, but that still seems a bit harsh as its never the same person.

AAARGH!!!!!

oh yes they do this to me occasionally

I can't believe they ring and ask for personal details. I always refuse to give them out!

Theyhad a special offer for me.
I said I do online banking I'll look at on the website

In the end I had to be rude (something I'm not particularly keen on)

So apologies Gavin but you were about the 20th person I'd spoken to.

I had the same woman ring me 8 days in a row asking for DH. I would say he is at work, try again at 6pm, and without fail at 1pm the following day we went through the same rigmarole. It dawned on me that she was actually in India - 5 hour time difference isn't it? Pointed this out to her each day - but didn't get anywhere. Cannot recommend enough getting call screening. Our phone does this without us paying a penny, and I only answer calls I recognise, everyone else can leave a message.

Do you have any accounts with them?

halifax don't issue paper statements on many of their products.

I have a loan with them and they ring me quarterly to give me a "statement update" (and try and convince me to buy a new product/extend my loan etc. of course.

If this is the cause of the call then you will find that tps will do nothing as it is not actually a "speculative call"

I had similar calls for dh.
In the end I sobbed theatrically down the phone that he'd left me and our 6 children and we were potless.

Never heard from them again

Don't get calls from Halifax but we from British Gas-infact it got to the stage where they were calling EVERY day for a week,until dh got shitty with them and basically told them to sod off.

No, I don't have an account WITH them! Closest is an affiliate card, which I didn't realise was Halifax until I'd applied.

I don't bank with Halifax after they gave out my home details to my Ex AND let him change the address details on MY own bank a/c because we also had a joint account (which I was trying to get closed!)

But affiliate cards count.

I am not overly objectionaly about me ring them but it does make me angry when "Royal bank of scotland" ring me and ask me to confrim details before they will give me an update on my account...except I don't have ana account with RBS it is with teh Halifax...get your facts straight before you call...

I had a similar problem with a bank a few years ago. It was my mobile they were calling and it got so bad that in the end I changed my number.

We had something where we had forgotten to make a credit card payment and Lloyds rang, repeatedly, with some sort of recorded message thing where they were asking DH to confirm (by pressing keys) his DOB before they actually said why they were ringing. We were both absolutely convinced it was a spam - until we rang Lloyds ourselves and were told they had tried to reach us. Barking.

MARY BS, they have an automated phone system, they cant stop it until they have the payment. And even after you have paid it will continue till midnight as that is when the payment registers.

They were ringing nonstop.
I immediately rang HSBC and transferred my balance from Halifax to HSBC, then rang Halifax and cancelled my card, explaining why. They dont care. They are so big they really dont care.

Tell tell immediately that you have signed up with the Telephone Preference Service. They should filter that information to a relevant department.

Worth a try.

(I worked for a bank many, many years ago and the folk on the phones were trained to apologise if anyone told them this.)

I don't OWE them any money though! I'm about £3 in credit - perhaps they're calling to tell me that?

I HAVE told them I'm with the TPS, but unless I confirm I'm me they don't listen!

They have now called again, and I've told them that MaryBS is seriously ill in hospital and burst into tears as their calls are so distressing.

I can't stand cold callers. Today I had one that wouldnt get off the phone. I said 'why do you think it is ok to phone people, trying to sell something? If I had wanted it I would have phoned you'. She said 'why do you have a phone then?'

I always say sweetly that I am very busy but ask them to please give me their name and home number and tell me when they will be at home relaxing, so that I can return their calls then.

I had the same thing with my credit card company when i missed a payment over xmas this was the call:

Me: hello
Annoying man: 'hello madam can you please confirm your name and dob'
Me: Who are you please?
Annoying man: 'can you please onfirm your name and dob'
Me: What is this regarding?
Annoying man: 'i cannot say until you confirm your name and dob'
Me: I not giving you any details until you tell me who you are and what is this regarding
Annoying man: can you please confirm your name and dob first
Me: oh fuckoff

I had a phone call a couple of weeks ago from a company I've never heard of, they asked me to confirm some personal details and when I refused they said they would write to me. YANBU.

NEVER EVER give personal details over the phone EVER. There are so many scams going about at the moment. Also email ones. We regularly get emails from Nat West and Abbey National (I don't even have an account with Abbey) asking me to give details. It is all a con. Yesterday I got an email telling me that someone was trying to pay money into my Paypal account and could I go into the link. I don't have a paypal account and don;t use Ebay! It is what they call a phishing email. They make me so bloody angry.

Forgot to say the telephone preferential line worked for me. All calls stopped straight away. Shame the email system does not have one.
