To want the Beavers to do a "Host" badge like the Rainbows' "Hostess" badge.

I was talking to some mums of girls, whose daughters are doing a lovely badge at Rainbows about writing invitations, passing round cakes etc. I wish that my son could do the same at Beavers. So many teenage boys/adult men seem to lack these type of social skills, and expect the women of the family to write all the cards, keep the social connections going. Does anyone know if the Cubs do this sort of thing later or aibu?

I think this might be Brownies, as I run a Rainbows and they don't do specific badges for specific things, where as the inviations and cakes thing sounds exactly like the Hostess badge my brownie DD did (they incorporated that with the enrolement, inviting the parents and serving cakes etc)

dd does rainbows, and they definitly dont do any badges.
i love the idea you mention. ds has now moved onto scouts, and whislt they do things like peel and chop veg, and cook, it is mainly barbequing type cooking. a host badge would be a wonderful idea

I used to be a Beaver leader. We used to do things like invite the parents for a tea party if there was something to celebrate. Get the Beavers to write invitations, set up the tables, make refreshments and hand them around and, most importantly, tidy up afterwards. I would suggest something like that. Beavers don't do badges.

Beavers do do badges - I've spent enough time sewing the bloody things on! However, I think the nearest they get is healthy eating badge. They could perhaps incorporate it into one of the challenge badge things they do as a colony - ask your beaver leader. She would probably appreciate some programme ideas.

I stand corrected then, they didn't used to do badges.

rainbows do do badges which get sewn on their uniforms, but they do not get them for specific things, or get to choose which they want to do, they are just for taking part in a variety of activities under the basic headings of "Look" "Learn" "Laugh" and "Love", they can also get specific badges for an overnight stay and for doing their "pot of gold" booklet on leaving for brownies

our Rainbows have also had 2 extra badges this summer, one is the national badge for Rainbows 21st birthday, the other our local county one celebrating 21 years, designed by a girl who was the winner of a competition

i have holes in my fingers from sewing on beaver and scouts badges. when i suggested the scouts group do a sewing award, where the boys could earnit by sewingon theirown badges, no one seemed interested.
so ds doesnt want to sew hison now.
dd's raiboyws dont do any badges. thank god. i wouldnt have any fingers left

i have a pile of badges to sew on for rainbows and brownies. was very releived when dd1 came home with just a 'second' pin badge this week as no sewing involved!

stitch - would love to know where your rainbows are and what they do then, as the whole essence of Rainbows is that they do things from the 4 areas, some are really simple, others more involved, and get the badge for taking part - they might only do one/two of these specific activities a term tho, and the rest of the time do other things

how long has yr dd been going? maybe they just haven't done one activity from all 4 sections yet? (they are supposed to get the chance to earn 3 different coloured badges in their 2 yrs)

am with you on the sewing tho, dd gets her brownie badges 4 at a time and it kills my fingers sewing them on

Yes, I may speak to the Beavers leaders and see what they say. It seems a shame to get into gender stereotypes so early, and then moan when men are useless later. The tea party type idea sounds good.

well, she hasnt comehome with any badges, though she does seem to be doing plenty of arts and crafts type activities. and just enjoys the girl only environment. with two big brothers, it is the only chance she has all week to be ina girl only place.
