To want to beat the shit out of the self service tills at Asda?

WHAT is the point?? really??

Earlier I did a bit of shopping and went to the "faster" self service check outs and every ffing thing I put throught it said "please wait for assistance"...ok I could understand it on the box of matches but it was EVERYTHING.

Then the bloody thing locked up so an assistant came to help (again), logged in with her number and then prompty got chatting to someone else and left me stood there like a bloody idiot!!

And then it cancelled my payment and made me faff around twice and THEN...THEN it had the cheek to tell me:

"Thanks for using the faster way to shop!"

I feel like I want to take a sledgehammer to it.

The tesco version is easier ime
I got very cross with the asda one because it kept talking to me!

MrsJamesMartin · 14/10/2008 22:18

The ASDA one is v annoying, especially at the end when you're starting to walk away and its still screaming at you " Please remove your card from the reader" over and over.

GhostlySinCity · 14/10/2008 22:24

oh god yes, it did that to me too!

"please remove your card...please remove your card...please remove your card..." and you're half way out of the bloody doors and can still hear it banging on about the card.

I hate them. It won't let me use my bag-for-life.

It is worth queuing up to be served by a lovely human person.

I remember once it kept waffling on about unidentified object in bagging area...I just couldn't understand it because there was nothing there...then realised DS was leaning on the bloody thing!

I always end up in a right mood after using them.

I hate them (hate ASDA too but that's another story).

I hate how they SHOUT the price for every single item. The scanners are totally over-senstive with regard to what it thinks an item should weigh.

The M&S ones are much better, but even they are really slow sometimes!

Furball · 15/10/2008 07:39

yes anymore than 2 items and it's a waste of time. The tescos ones chuck all your shopping into a heap at the end of the conveyor belt whilst you're still scannng. You can't rest your bag on the otherside of the scanner and put it straight in as the conveyor belt takes that away as well.

OrmIrian · 15/10/2008 07:43

I like them. And I don't get that many problems. It can be much quicker.

Mum2OliverJames · 15/10/2008 09:54

the one i use at rainbow is great, dont ever really get problems, but tbh they dont really need them because is never overly busy in there.

bozza · 15/10/2008 09:58

I always use them but the bag for life thing is annoying. If you put your bag on the floor and fill it up, you have to click on Skip Bagging every time and after a couple it requires the assistant to come and enter a code.

Simplysally · 15/10/2008 09:59

If you have something that needs to be weighed or 'approved' then they're a pain but otherwise they can be ok. I don't like the ones where the shopping shoots down the conveyor so I try to use the tandem tills if possible. Better than being stuck behind a family of 20 doing a fortnightly shop!!

MrsMattie · 15/10/2008 10:01

The ones in my local sainsbury's and Boots are crap. They have a member of staff loitering around the long checkout queues asking if anyone wants to try the self-checkout. They just get dirty looks lol. Nobody wants to use them because they are pants.

frasersmummy · 15/10/2008 10:02

all self service are a faff unless you have nipped in for 1 pint of milk and a loaf of bread

but the most annoying phrase is deffo asda's smug american "thank you for using the fast lane"

RustyBear · 15/10/2008 10:03

Our Tesco ones don't have a conveyor belt, just a space with bags - it used to be too small, but they've recently extended it & it doesn't seem to have a problem with you putting your own bags on anymore. I always use it if I can.

But I went into Asda the the other day & it was chaos assistants were running from one person with a problem to another and the queues were massive.

DaphneMoon · 15/10/2008 11:03

God MNis slow today is anyone else having a problem?

Anyway on the self service subject. I went to the one in Tesco today I don't know why I bother because every bloody time I have a problem with it. They don't have converyors on ours anymore, but they keep telling you to put your shopping in the bag even if you have done. If you don't swipe your clubcard straight away you can forget it. I try to get really organised now and get my cards in my hand ready before I press the button. I'm not surprised they have to have someone there all the time to keep attending to people.

Tidey · 15/10/2008 13:52

I don't understand those machines. What's to stop thieves from only scanning two items and putting twenty others in their bag? Or is everything security tagged nowadays?

lazarou · 15/10/2008 13:54

LMFAO at this thread! YOu teach that machine a lesson

Dainese27 · 17/10/2008 15:01

TIP - Get asda / tesco / whoever back for their annoying games by playing the one for me and one for you game.

You put on thing through the barcode reader and when you scan the next iten you also put one in your bag for free.

Another good option is to use the lookup function and type, for instance an apple for 12p and put through something far more expensive. If you get caught out, act daft and say you must've pressed the wrong button.

asda one is horrendous, makes me want to punch it so i never use them now.

not used tescos.

but used morrisons for the first time the other day, they have just got them in my local store and they were very good, was impressed.

morrisons usually annoy me as well as they seem to have trained the staff to open 778989987 bags before they put shopping through.

Dainese27 · 17/10/2008 15:16

OMG Notdoingthehousework?

Tell me exactly how Supermarkets pass their not inconsiderable losses back to the customers?

By putting up the prices? They've got 3 quarters of the nation believing the prices are inflating because of the 'credit crunch' Not the case actually, you'll see this time next year the major mutiples will still post record profits. You see they dictate the prices they pay for stuff and if the suppliers dare to question it, the majors just refuse to stock their products. The price of wheat maybe sky high, and fuel prices are high (although dropping currently) the logistics suppliers can't charge the MM's more as they'll lose the work. These companies run a cartel. Another little bit of info for you. You know the Buy one get one free offers, they're dictated by the Majors and not the suppliers, and guess what, if you don't like what we say, we'll not give you any shelf space.

So so much for being an arsehole, you're the arsehole being sucked in by the likes of sainsbury and Tesco etc for believing that its the credit crunch (or shoplifting) that's making your weekly shop more expensive.

How'd you like them beans?

Carmenere · 17/10/2008 15:20

The thing is Dainesse that although I agree with you that the big supermarkets are inherently evil, there is no such thing as a free lunch. If you steal from them, they will not absorb the loss. They will pass it on, if not to the consumer, to the supplier or elsewhere. Basically morally it is wrong to steal, even if you perceive the crime to be victimless, it is not.

LittleMyDancingWithTheDevil · 17/10/2008 15:21

So that makes it ok to steal from them?

If you don't like them, don't shop there or lobby head office.

ruddynorah · 17/10/2008 15:22

um, i think you're the only person that's mentioned credit crunch.
