Ok 10 months ago when we moved up north I had to fill in a new patient thing for school nurse for dd and It had a section to do with any concerns I had, I had several concerns and put this down along with the fact that DD needed her hib booster.

Ok so 10 months down the line (and yes I have chased them many times) I have recieved a letter on Friday saying that my daughter needs her hib as we havent arranged for her to come in and could I ring to arrange it immediately, I have now tried since friday to make an appointment and been told to ring back 4 times as they dont know when they are next doing them.

Then to add insult the school learning mentor came to me at hometime and said that they had been contacted because I had expressed concerns on a form and they wanted to speak to me about the concerns.

Ten bloody months it has taken them to do this. The concerns where quite serious ones about dds development and after seeing the doctor I had been advised to see school nurse about them so they could liase with school etc.

YANBU but sadly its all too common. I've been trying to get SALT for dd for years. She's nearly 5 and still can't sdpeak and still doesn't have a communication aid.

Sorry I pressed post before I had finished lol. Basically I am annoyed because they have now identified that they were quite serious concerns and dd has gone alway through reception having not had the support she should have.

Presumably if the concerns were 'quite serious' you haven't waited 10 months and have approached someone else to get your DD the help she needs?

YABU. Sometimes you need to chase people up, they are busy people and maybe had many other children with more pressing concerns.

nolongeraworriedmummy · 14/10/2008 19:38

oops xpost needmorecoffee, one of my concerns was speech as well, dd was/is selective mute and we saw a psychologist who recomended salt and intervension throughout early school, dds nursery did it off their own backs but nothing since, its very frustrating isnt it.

Other concerns were very strong autistic signs.

Geepers if you read my post properly it does say that I HAVE been chasing but getting nowhere fast!

Sorry didn't read properly.

I wouldn't rely on school nurse for anything. Can't you insist on referrals from your GP?

salsmum · 14/10/2008 19:43

needmorecoffee,
Have you tried whizz kidz they may be able to help or Variety club, Round Table or local paper for help?

needmorecoffee · 14/10/2008 19:44

she needs decent SALT and an assessment.

nolongeraworriedmummy · 14/10/2008 19:51

gp did refer us, we have seen psychologists and paediatrition through the gp, Im just frustated because she should have been getting support through school during that time and it just hasnt happened.

DD was in drs words having a nervous breakdown in october of last year (age 4) as a result of severe physical bullying in nursery, but she also had exsisting issues such as she only talked in the home, did not play with other children, would not even go anywhere near them, , would freak if her routine was changed or she would organise things in a line and if you moved them she would lose it completley, she would become hysterical if somewhere was loud, she still cant ride a trike made for 18 month olds or skip etc at 6

needmorecoffee is there a surestart centre anywhere near? I emailed the salt listed on the sure start centre pages for my area and she arranged to see dd.

just ignore this thread its just a frustrated ramble because I have chased them for 10 months then get two responses from them both along the lines of saying hey your dd needs this and you havent done anything you bad mother!

Surestart centres here have nothing like that. They only do stay and plat sessions.
Its just fustrating how long everything takes and how many hours you have to be on the phone
