To wash the dog in washing up liquid?

Dog needs a bath. I remember my grandma always used to wash her dog with washing up liquid. Can't be bothered to go and buy dog shampoo...would it be unreasonable to wash it with washing up liquid?

Washing-up liquid is horrible stuff. If you use it on your dog it may well cause a rash or irritation. Use your own shampoo if your dog needs a bath. Or just ignore the smell.

Why is washing up liquid so bad? Genuine clueless here, but if it was all that bad for the skin, presumably my hands would have fallen off by now.

I use washing up liquid on my hair when i very occasionally forget to buy shampoo, hasn't done me any harm apart from give me squeaky clean hair.

It is so vile you're not even supposed to get it on your hands when you wash up.

It will strip the coat of natural oils if you do,echo others-baby shampoo or even a mild soap is best if you have no dog shampoo.

Go buy some,it's not that expensive,and it lasts for ages

Callisto I don't believe that - how is it possible that manufacturers would be allowed to sell something to wash dishes that you are not supposed to even get on your hands?Back this claim up with evidence please and then I will go out and buy a pair of rubber gloves.

Manufacturers sell shite we shouldn't be injesting/breathing in/touching ALL THE TIME. If you wash your hair in any on the normal shampoos they contain cancer-causing parabens, if you drive your car your breating in toxic fumes, if you eat biscuits your eating crappy trans-fats that damage your innards.

Why do you need to wash your dog? We only washed our dogs if they rolled in something awful or if they had mange. All three dogs had beautiful coats. If he is really dirty and you don't have the right product, then just use water.

Actually I have a dog shampoo as her skin irritates easily. I would not use washing liquid as I think it can be quite harsh, my hands always dry out afterwards.

A dog groomer said that baby shampoo is best as most natural.

I thought washing up liquid would be fine, don't the RSPCA use it on oil slicked birds etc.....(perhaps I am being dense)?

I would never wash my dog with washing up liquid. Johnson's baby shampoo or tea-tree doggy shampoo.

If you can't be bothered to go and buy dog shampoo, why are you so bothered about how your dog smells?

I'm hoping your answer is no, so why do it to an animal who is probably more likely to get irritated by it.

YABVU if you think dog shampoo is a con then just use baby shampoo as its mild enough.
