to want to return ds's bouncy chair because I think it's unsafe?

Its a Mothercare Tiny Ted rocker, and until now (18 weeks) he has been using it without a harness (seat is quite deep and he wasn't going anywhere) Now I do want to strap him in, the harness is rubbish, it barely reaches the top of his legs and certainly isn't going to stop him falling out. I am miffed because I spent £50 on this chair about 3 months ago and really need a chair for him, but I want something that's safe. I am worried that if I try and take it back they will ask why I didn't bring it back sooner, but I hadn't realised that the straps were so low. Looking on their website several people have had the same problem so it is obviously a design fault. What do you think? imo, it is not safe Link here

I think the reason you are finding it unsafe is that these chairs (no matter what the bumf) are only suitable for tinies who have no head control/desire to move/developing sitting balance

I think it more likely your ds has out-developed it

It says its suitable for up to 6 months though- and tbh my friend put her teeny 8lb baby in it and the straps were still nowhere near where they should be. I don't want to go to the shop and cause a fuss but at the same time I do think its a safety issue.

I have an opinion on these types of chairs

They are not generally safe, full stop

I would never leave a baby of any age unsupervised in one (I am not suggesting you do that)

Hey, i bought the cheapo one from mothercare, it was only £8, my ds at about 4 months when he started to sit, would flop forward in it so i used a bumbo seat for about one month untill he could crawl then he always climbed out of it, so i bought a reclining highchair from chicco and found it very useful, i even bought one for my mums house, maybe worth getting one. It can sit back and is padded and the harness is really good.
I think what any says is very true, they are safe when your lo cant move.

just clicked the link. Sorry i should have done that in the first place. My pil were given that chair when my ds was born. It wasn't suitable for him at all, it sat up too high i felt he might topple out the sides.

just looking at that pic those straps are pretty ridiculous. if you don;t want to go the shop try emailing them

Have rung the shop and they are happy for me to return it and pick a different one- I think from the sound of the woman I spoke to it is a known fault, which does make me wonder why they don't withdraw them
