It is to be taken tongue-in-cheek (no pun intended) though isn't it? I agree the Trident ads are sexist but we are meant to watch with a post-modern sense of humour and not knee-jerk react into feminist diatribes? (Please don't shoot me. I like to think of myself as a feminist.)

Since Ladettes, the culture does seem to have turned full-circle and sexism is fashionable again? The young (women included) seem to revel in it.
?

Flibbertyjibbet · 10/10/2008 17:55

I'm sure a good surgeon can give you a body like that mumsy.

And, robert mumsy, before you slag off MIDDLE AGED LADIES, please remember that the golden rule in marketing these past 40 years, has been 'follow the baby boomers'.
So, if you don't want to sell your insurance to anyone over 40, slag off anyone under 40 who thinks your ad is desperate and rubbish, and prefer to sell insurance to boy racers who want to look at pneumatic boobies, then your insurance company will probably be looking to the government for a bail out very soon.

mummsy11 · 10/10/2008 17:56

ditto!!

DarrellRivers · 10/10/2008 17:56

Was that advert porn?
[missed me]
Seemed idiotic bimbettic rather than porn [puzzle]

DarrellRivers · 10/10/2008 17:58

I am also retiring as I find it hard to believe that we are sold [and believe} the line that adverts such as that Trident one are a feminist triumph [v puzzled] in a post modern way

combustiblelemon · 10/10/2008 18:00

I'd love a realistic insurance advert.

"Hi, we can offer you low premiums because we have a company policy of making it nigh on impossible to make a claim. We'll keep you on hold for hours. Occasionally our call centre staff will hang up on you as soon as you're connected to improve their response time stats. They will also not know anything that might help you, and take your number swearing to call you back. They will do nothing, but don't hate them too much, because we treat them like shit, pay them fuck all and time their toilet breaks. The chances are if you call back two weeks later that staff member will have left. We will use any available opportunity to refuse your claim, for example if you didn't declare you once had chicken pox as a child and that you are left handed."

witcheseve · 10/10/2008 18:01

It's not on TV is it? It could only be shown after 9 pm as its verging on soft porn.

combustiblelemon · 10/10/2008 18:03

It's an attempt at viral marketing.

ehoward · 10/10/2008 18:06

lol

skyatnight · 10/10/2008 18:10

Darrel. I am not selling anything nor do I see these adverts as feminist triumphs nor did I say that. The bouncy one is blatantly sexist. What I said was that things seem to have gone full circle. Young women now have no idea nor any interest in what we refer to as feminism. It seems to be as irrelevant to them now as communism became to politics. Modern feminism seems to be all about using your sex to get what you want rather than trying to promote equality of the sexes.

skyatnight · 10/10/2008 18:13

Now I've turned defensive and humourless. Oh well.

DarrellRivers · 10/10/2008 18:14

Fair enough skyatight, misunderstood your point

lulumama · 10/10/2008 18:17

was someone high when they thought that advert would be a good idea!!

considering it is often women who make decisions re houshold bills etc.. this was a Bad Idea, and is one way to ensure that I will never , ever, ever use Trident

do they think we are all thick or something>

oooh, a post modern company, how hilaaaarious

i think not

that someone got paid to think up that ad

Liffey · 10/10/2008 18:18

It's true some younger girls today do see using their looks as some sort of modern feminism, but they are wrong, because that means only young stupid women with big breasts have any voice, and the wrong people are listening.

Juliette108 · 10/10/2008 18:20

I repeat; ehoward- EMILY HOWARD -little Britain 'I'm a lady'. A man posing as a woman etc etc....

TinkerBellesMum · 10/10/2008 18:22

And that phrase has been used

DarrellRivers · 10/10/2008 18:23

I look just like her Juliette

BitOfFungusthebogeyman · 10/10/2008 18:32

well I am a hottie, and I think the ad is sexist crap. So ner.

skyatnight · 10/10/2008 18:41

No probs Darrell.
Agree Liffey but not just stupid women with big breasts. It seems to also be clever women with big breasts and clever women with long legs and average-brained women with curvy waists, etc., using their sex as a tactic again.

But it is naive to think that it will work for longer than short term (after all, we all get old). Unless you are just looking for a husband, using your sex to get your own way just plays into a man's hands (literally?) Especially in the workplace. In the long run, it could help to use your sexual allure subtly, but, unless you are also good at your job, you won't be taken seriously. The only way to get a good job and keep it is to be good at your job and earn respect as an equal.

And/or work part-time in Sainsbury's where they like you to be chirpy and docile but, probably, still want you to be good at your job as well.

needmorecoffee · 10/10/2008 18:42

get thee on a pogo stick Fungus

Liffey · 10/10/2008 18:46

Ehoward has clocked out, left the call centre and is on his way home on the 18.13 to Billaricay.

Liffey · 10/10/2008 18:47

No offence to Billaricay, just the first English town that came to mind because I watched Gavin and STacey last night.

skyatnight · 10/10/2008 18:51

Imagine going to your moggelling agency:
'We may have a job for you. No, it's not catalogue work, it's an advert for an insurance company. How's your pogo? Could you try on this silver lame bikini...'

policywonk · 10/10/2008 18:54

sky, when I was Googling Trident earlier on, one of the sites that came up is a glamour model agency proudly announcing that their models are used in that piece of shite.

pointygravedogger · 10/10/2008 19:01

yanbu. I hate it too.
