Went to Saks today

Now admitedly I am a bit of a hair snob and like to go somewhere nice and be pampered

I had shoulder length hair brownish
I asked for a bob style with a bit of colour

Stylist said
"Yes a short bob with some layers would suit you etc etc and how about some golden highlights?"

Yes I said that sounds nice.

Cue hair washed, cut, then foils with colour all through hair- also had french manicure which was half price at £9 so bargain i thought!!

Had a nice time, went to pay and guess how much the bill was......

£106

I was gobsmacked!
Now I dont mind paying about £60-70 but £106
I remarked that the price was extortionate and that perhaps they should have explained the price before the commenced with the treatment.

So AIBU?

this was in Durham btw not london

YABU for not having checked the price beforehand.

ledodgy · 09/10/2008 18:49

That sounds normal to me. I pay £100 at Toni and Guy for a cut and colour. It's the colour that costs.

ledodgy · 09/10/2008 18:50

Will also say I get my hair done about twice a year!

LadyOfWaffleIsScaryEnough · 09/10/2008 18:50

Cut, colour AND manicure - sounds good to me TBH. T & G just cut mine for about £50/60.

OrmIrian · 09/10/2008 18:50

It must have been the extra 'o'.

I don't know what happened there!

expatinscotland · 09/10/2008 18:51

i do my highlights at home for a tenner.

turns out just as good.

went to Sally's and got a proper highlighting cap, tinting brush and hook.

I pay £110 for cut and 2 colours and don't get the manicure!

potatofactory · 09/10/2008 18:51

Agree expat will def check beforehand again next time

Why do I feel so fecking guilty then?

I have just had 17 weeks of severe sickness due to hyperemesis and wanted to treat myself but I thought it was a tad pricey but obv not according to you lot!

When DS2 was small (ie under 1) I had my hair cut (restyle) and 3 colours put in and it was £57. Over 2 years ago now.

It sounds a lot but you wanted pampering and that comes at a price. Get a cut and colour at a villiage salon and you would pay less I imagine.

The important question is - do you like it though?? And what did they say when you said it was expensive?

potatofactory · 09/10/2008 18:53

I get my hair cut for £8 down the road. I have EXTREMELY fine hair, and have spent thousands over the years working out that I may as well spend £8 down the road. Looks the same as anything else...

fanjolina · 09/10/2008 18:53

I've just paid £135 for cut and colour. At a local salon - and many many miles from London. And that was with a 10% discount too. But that's what salon cut & colour costs. I was in for 3 hours!!

expatinscotland · 09/10/2008 18:54

well, no point in crying over spilled milk, lilly.

it's done now, paid up, not like you can take it back .

ditch the guilt. enjoy your hair.

lesson learned if you want it cheaper next time.

TequilaMockinBird · 09/10/2008 18:55

I go to a local hairdresser and pay about £25 for a cut and colour

Mind you, I do have to sit with the blue-rinse brigade and read 'The People's Friend'!

fullmoonfiend · 09/10/2008 18:58

I just had long hair highlighted in reds and golds and cut (with layers) for £25. Hairdresser Mate came to house...got tea and home-made biscuits brought to me by ds

Ok guilt with stop now
And yes I do like it and it was a nice pleasant 2 1/2 hours- they were very nice.

They did look very apologetic when they saw how stunned I was and did ask if I had had the price explained to me beforehand.

Never mind que sera sera and all that.

I think I'll go to Durham - Dublin is just extortionate.
Once - Ok I'll repeat that once I paid 220 for a restyle and colour and highlights.
Now prices were displayed as per the law here but I didn't think they'd charge me for dabbing a bit of colour on my head (have a grey lock) after I had said I wanted highlights.
I unfortunately got the senior stylist and the senior colourist.

now, I colour my own hair myself for 7 and go to a local salon and pay 45 for the top stylist there - about three times a year.
