leaving work a week tomorrow to go on maternity leave

i KNOW they'll do a collection as they always do

I really want to suggest they buy me a nice baby blanket but feel like a cheeky cow

should I drop hints? Or just say "please buy me..." or just say nothing?

I dont think its unreasonable to drop hints. I used to work in a large office and mums were always asked what they would like. Its common sense really and saves duplicates.

Maybe drop hints to the chief gift buyer? Do you know who will be responsible for buying the gift?

Don't know who'll buy, its usually me - I do tend to be bossy offer.

Tell someone you are close to and get them to do the hinting for you. I did this and got what I wanted.

Drop hints or tell one person who can then spread the news!

I remember I dropped really big hints to the person who I thought would do the buying eg I've only got to get a changing mat and some baby towels when I start maternity leave and then I can put my feet up !

It worked.

Be grateful if you get anything. I used to be the one who did the buying/organising. When I went on mat leave nobody else thought to do anything!

We all do this in my office. My mate is off on mat leave next month - she sent me a link to the product she wants!

YANBU! go for it. In fact someone who left my work last year to have a baby had a wedding style baby gift list on JL website... wasnt sure if that was going too far or not. Great idea if you can pull it off!

I know. Was a bit shocked as not what I would have expected from this nice lady. But they had a big family so maybe it was predominately for making sure they didnt get repeat family gifts!

Definitely drop a hint. I dropped about a million when I left work that I really wanted a digital camera (didn't have one, and very necessary for the billions of baby photos!) and it worked like a charm . They're probably regretting it now, as I keep boring them with photos of DS...

If they ask you can tell them what you'd like, otherwise I wouldn't say anything.

My experience is that whoever has been chosen to buy the gift would love ideas. It's always a bit tricky, and fab to know that you can get something the person woudl really like.

Hint. The one thing I could really do with/ really need is ....

I think the secretary doing the collection asked me - they got me a Huggababy sling, at my request, much to the confusion of an office full of blokes!
