Just before bedtime, dd YR2 said she banged her head in school today.
Boy in YR runing mad in playground ran into her without looking. No visible marks on her.
Should the lunchtime staff not give the letter to the teacher to hand out, as opposed to giving to chid to put in coat pocket hoping to tell their parents.
Luckily she is ok but I would not have known had she not mentioned it.

Its tricky but usually by Y2 giving letters to their parents is beginning to be expected.

However, often sticking a sticker on them that says, I have bumped my head today is a good alternative. Perhaps you could mention it casually at next pta meeting/open day.

I know by YR2 most kids are meant to tell you things but they do forget/get side tracked. my dd has always said whats happened in her day but others don't.
I will mention it, surely schools do have policies on this.
Worst case kid passes out or becomes sick,dinnertime over who knows what has happened.

If a child bangs their head at the school I work for, we have to put a sticker on their shirt, and write it in the accident book. All bangs to the head get stickers, bad ones get a note home, really bad ones get a phone call to let the parents know what's happened and give them the chance to fetch the child if we/they think it necessary. The note goes in their book bag, and it's then up to the child to make sure their parents see it.

Mostly, when one child runs into another, there is no real harm done - often not even a mark, and they only come into first aid and get checked over and are stickered as a precaution so that teachers and parents can keep an eye on them.

If it had been a bump worth you worrying about, I'm sure you would have been notified as such. But there are so many bumps and bruises in a day - I can list upwards of 100 in an hour and a half at lunchtime - that it would be nigh on impossible for the teachers to tell every parent about every bump the children get.

Lemon, it's not really different for heads, not with a small bump. There are bumps to the head which are so insignificant they really don't need anything doing - but we have to sticker them and put them in the book just in case something develops later on (it never does).

A significant bump to the head is very different to a small bump to the head - and again, if we were to notify every parent every time that happened, we would be there for an hour letting parents know. Small bumps to the head are more common than you would think and are usually nothing really to worry about - particularly if they were so small that there is no mark left.

It sounds bad when a child says they bumped their head, but it isn't always. Obviously I can't see your child so can't say what kind of bump she had, but more often than not, when two children bump heads there is nothing to see and nothing to worry about. As long as your child has received the right first aid I wouldn't think it was anything to worry about.

I'd ask your school about providing stickers though - ours just runs sheets of stickers through the printer. At least then the teachers know to keep an eye on the child, and so do the parents. Although we do find that a lot of children love having the stickers on (not sure why because they are stultifyingly boring!) so they pretend to have banged heads together quite often ...!

obv enough to give letter out
