to find this kind of...distasteful?

I'm probably being unreasonable, live and let live after all. A dad dropping off his child at dd1's reception class today - large chap, shaved head, wearing cut off tracksuit bottoms with such clear and distinct holes in them that you could see his bottom (at the back, I averted my eyes at the front, too scary) through them, and a similarly stained, holey t-shirt. When i say large chap i mean really large chap. Repeatedly bumped me in the back with his stomach when i was helping DD1 with her coat trying to push by (I am 7 months pregnant, so perhaps taking up more room than I think?) is it just me or that just kind of...well...gross (for lack of a better word!)?
thinking back to all the threads on MN about what to wear for pick up/drop off...

His order from Boden probably hadnt arrived!

I suppose people think that others arent looking at them when they drop their kids off. Maybe he was going home to garden/decorate/have a shower??

daftpunk · 03/10/2008 10:26

yanbu; he really shouldn't be allowed out at all

you poor thing......bumped in the back by a fat stomach...omg

forevercleaning · 03/10/2008 10:26

could be a labourer on his way to work?

or just a fat old lard arse who couldnt care less

RubySlippers · 03/10/2008 10:27

which bit are you finding distasteful - his largeness or his holey clothes, his shaved head?

i am not sure what the issue is

VinegarTits · 03/10/2008 10:28

Which bit was distasteful? bumping into you? his size/weight? or his clothes?

If it was the first, yanbu, the other 2 you are. He may have trouble finding clothes for a man his size, he may have been going home to do some diy, they may have been work clothes that he wears under an overall (painter and decorator)

Saturn74 · 03/10/2008 10:28

he should be made to drop off his child under cover of darkness.

harleyd · 03/10/2008 10:28

are you serious

VinegarTits · 03/10/2008 10:28

RubySlippers · 03/10/2008 10:29

LOL at Humphrey!

this is the sort of thing that doesn't even register on my radar

UNLESS people are wearing t-shirts with swear words on and then i get all judgy pants

cupsoftea · 03/10/2008 10:30

Did he smell? or was it just the outfit?

RubySlippers · 03/10/2008 10:30

we speak sense Vinegar ...

VinegarTits · 03/10/2008 10:32

I feel sorry for him and i dont even know him. He may be poor.

OrmIrian · 03/10/2008 10:35

I expect he was on his way to work. Builder? How odd to mind.

Saturn74 · 03/10/2008 10:35

Me too, VT.
Am going to nominate him for the PTA.

i found it distasteful that a grown man had his bottom showing in a room full of 4 year olds. I found it shocking that the majority of people (no matter how poor) can cover up and look decent when dropping off their child at school - and would make a point of doing so, but that this man had no respect for the children or the other parents. Sorry if that makes me a prude (!)

We had a huge hulk of a builder working at our house a few months ago.

I went out to give him a cup of tea to be faced by about 4 inches of the crack of his arse. I had to look away when he turned round, I really did think I was going to get an eyful of 4 inches of something else...

Threadworrm · 03/10/2008 10:38

(Lol at 'clear and distinct'. Could Descartes found a proof of the external world on the sight of this man's bottom?) [obscure]

i agree with you babblington

Ripeberry · 03/10/2008 10:41

We used to have a familly that came to school with no shoes on, even in winter but at least the kids had shoes.
They used to make me shiver!

VinegarTits · 03/10/2008 10:42

I dont think showing a bit of bum crack is disrespectful, maybe he couldnt help it because if his size. You sound like a snob.

solo · 03/10/2008 10:43

I always feel like people are judging me on what I wear etc. You've just reinforced my lack of confidence.

VinegarTits · 03/10/2008 10:44

Also he may be depressed because of his weight and thats why he doesnt take much pride in his appearance.

babblington · 03/10/2008 10:45

Oh for God's sake - VinegarTits, I think you are fatist - no matter your size, you can in this day and age find clothes that cover your genitals and even if your clothes have holes and you can't afford new ones, you could wear pants underneath to cover your arse in a room full of CHILDREN. \

To clarify, he wasn't obese, just a large man.
