To have spent a fortune on my DS bedroom?

DS moving from nursery into bigger bedroom and proper bed soon.

I want it to be nice for him, as I believe he should have his own wee space in the house that is special.

Am I mad? I have spent a fortune on curtain fabric, bedding, lights etc!

Think I am a bit hormonal as well. What are your kid's bedrooms like? Does it matter?

My 3 have got a bedroom each. They have a high bed or bunk bed, then a cheapish suite of furniture (desk, wardrobe, cabinet) from Argos, MFI or Next, the sort you assemble yourself.

Then the walls are painted a plain colour and I buy matching duvet, curtains and border and lamp from any high street door.

If I need to change the room in the future, all I need to do is repaint the walls and replace the soft furnishings.

all done quite cheaply and all look really nice.

If you can afford it, then yes.

If you are intending to keep it for a few years, then yes as it works out as good value for money

Define 'a fortune' - it will depend where you have bought the stuff from!

We did DD's room for her 3rd birthday - back in those days when she had no idea of the value of money and been subjected to TV ads (none on CBeebies) - she still has it now 4 years later, although she is getting a bit young for Disney Princesses! She now wants High School Musical!

I painted murals in my dc bedrooms (ranch/cowboy and laura ashley style) but we were on a budget when we moved in.
It's still the same 3years and 2 more dc later with the addition of some Cars stickarounds in ds room.

It's all relative as I spent £27 on a white roller blind and pendant lightshade(which I did a cow print on in marker pen) 2 gaudy pots of paint and three tester pots and some cowboy bedding. If I had to do it all again with money to spend I would import fabrics from America and all sorts

I spent a lot of dd1's (2.9 at the time) new bedroom a few months before dd2 was born - but the furniture I bought was all white, and the bed was a full size single bed. I saw the whole thing as an investment.

The walls can always be cheaply repainted but the furniture will last her until she's into her teens......which is very good value for money in my book.

I was the same with the nursery for DD (first chold) - it had to be all Mamas and Papas, from the cot to the curtains!!! Spent a fortune, but then sold it on Ebay 3 years later and got at least half the cost back, which paid for her big girls room!

DS (1.5 years ago) got Mothercare, and some leftover bits from DD and some Ebay purchases!!! He doesnt even know or care I am sure!!!

The fabric is boyish but I suppose it will last him for quite a long time as it isn't babyish.

If I ever had another boy they could share that room as it is bunkbeds. They are actually the bunkbeds my DH and his younger brother shared. I suspect I should be buying a new matress rather than robot clocks!

My DD has a lovely bedroom and it cost me less than £300.

She's got a white painted floor, white furniture, pink walls ( quite deep pink ) co-ordinated curtains and lampshade etc and a lush stripy rug from Ikea ( its called Strib ).

I wish i'd had a bedroom like it when i was a child !

It is all relative. I think this is a fortune as I am not normally frivilous. I am sure people have spent more!

I like to think it is stuff I will keep and maybe bring out for grandchildren

I just got ds a bed shaped like a car actually.
I thought it would help him settle in his big bed but in reality I find him on the floor looking at the car more than anything! lol.

There is something special about kids bedrooms but it still feels a bit wrong to be buying these things when my DS probably doesn't know the difference.

He does however love his Robot clock! I convince myself he will tell the time quicker

If you can afford then no go for it! My DD curtains were handmaid and cost £300 (the are fully black out lined as well) also the wallpaper was matching and cost £20 a roll and then the boarder was £14. Bed was the princess one from GLT company and was £129. The wardrobe etc was cheapy stuff from Littlewoods. However she is out PFB and we cannot have anymore so deserves something a bit special. She loves her room and it will grow with her so I think it will work out good value in the end. Well I hope it will.

Oh just enjoy it and if you can afford it why not. I did DD's bedroom earlier this year - she's just turned 4 and it's already on it's third incarnation (including nursery stage . I always try and keep it reasonable (carpet neutral so has stayed the same, bedside cabt. and chest of drawers 2nd hand etc) but the little bits and bobs that make it special all add up don't they?

TBH I love decorating and would do her room every year if I though DH would let me get away with it!!!

Does he actually play in his room? Mine never did until they were about 4. So we never decorated till then - and I mean never, we didn't 'do' a nursery, they slept in what had been the spare room.
