do you think they do it on purpose???

do firemen decide to all go out while it is school-run times just because they know that the mums at the school gates will all go as they drive past??

BUT

they were rather mighty fine looking

I grew up in Jeddah and have nothing but wonderful memories of my childhood, it was great!

Now I'm back in England I still miss it (not all aspects obviously, like the arrogance of Saudis) but the weather, the food, the cosmopolitan atmosphere, the deserts, the sand, how everywhere was so child friendly, shops being open at night... I wouldn't choose to live there now as an adult (mostly coz I'm an independant single mum lol) but had an amazing upbringing and childhood, we travelled all around the middle east every holiday. We didn't live in an expat compound, my parents wanted to be right in the thick of it with the locals, even send me to the local government primary school , but to an international British school for secondary.

I've heard it is not how it used to be though, I think luckily when I was living there it was mostly a safe place (apart from the gulf war which we lived through lol) and everyone loved westerners.

I miss shawarmas, and all the Eid celebrations

I would like to try a fireman.

Please pass on any used/unwanted ones.

Thanks

mmmm shawarmas. lovely! I've always thought it a bit weird that they put chips in them though or did they not do that in Jeddah? not been to Jeddah but planning on trying to fit in a diving trip next year. I hear its a lot more civilized that Riyadh. Maybe the firemen there don't wear flip flops either!

What about policemen!! I once dated one who handcuffed me to the bed
The firemen here also wear flipflops, its not the same!!

Couple of years ago, fire alarms went off at the site I work (extremely hazardous facility), so we all duely evacuated and fire engine turned up 5 mins later.
Now we were certain the alarms went off because of a fault - no-one had triggered the alarms (we have call points all over the site and someone would have had to set one these off to trigger the alarm - turns out it was a fualty cable).
We could disable the alarms from the control panel, and the fire crew wanted to go up and do it but insisted a staff member accompanied them in the fire engine to disable the alarms and help them check there was no fire.
So in I jumped into the fire engine and we pootled up on site.
Yey - the child in me very excited about having a ride in a Nee-Naw (as I used to call them when I was a littlie) but sadly not a one of them was under 50...

Happily a few before that at the company I used to work for we had a full scale emergency exercise (similar facility) and the firemen that turned up then were seriously fit. Me and the Lab Manager were busy ogling them
