My debit card ran out and I got my new one a while ago.

I went to update paypal but they wont let me register my new card as this one has my married name on, the previous was my maiden name.

I phoned them, had to go through the embarressing torture that is 'shouting answers at a machine' ... 'customer services'

paypal - sorry we don't undertsand you, can you repeat that

Then I finally get through to someone who quizzes me on my accounts and security for 5 mins, then tells me they will send an email with instructions to change my name.

3 hours later, the email arrives.

10 points instructions on how to FIND the instructions on ebay...

After 15 mins I finally get to where I want to be...

I have to FAX them documentation.

I don't have a bloody fax machine, or acess to one!!

Then it says I HAVE to send current photo ID...

my passport has my maiden name on still (And im not spending £50 to renew it for paypal!!!)

and I don't drive so don't have any other photo ID.

I now have a large amount of money stuck in paypal.

My options are leave it there to rot.

Spend it (tempting but its needed for something else)

or transfer it to my dads paypal account but paypal with take 90% or something ridiculous just for the pleasure!

You can withdraw to a bank account without having a registered debit card.

OneLieIn · 29/09/2008 16:05

Can't you just open a new paypal account in your married name?

EnchantedWithEdwardCullen · 29/09/2008 16:12

When i go to withdraw funds it says my maiden name,
i just filled my bank account details with that and this came up ...

This bank account is disabled for entry into the PayPal website. Please add a different bank account instead.

If you would still like to use this bank account, you may fax us a copy of the bank statement with the two amounts PayPal deposited in your bank account shown and a copy of your driving licence or other photo ID. You must use this form for your fax cover sheet and send the fax to (402) 537-5780.

WTF??

transfer it to your dad paypal using personal payment, and you get no fees!!!!

EnchantedWithEdwardCullen · 29/09/2008 16:18

are you sure?

it would take a large amount!

SERIOUSLY!! I transferred £220 to Misdee the other using personal, and there was no fees my end or hers.

coxiegirl · 29/09/2008 16:21

I vaguely remember having this similar problem - in the end I cancelled my paypal account and then reopened one with new details.
I remeber I was livid !
Oh bugger sorry did not read properly about your account being in credit....
If you close it, will they have to send a cheque do you think..?
Sorry, not much help.

EnchantedWithEdwardCullen · 29/09/2008 16:34

Thanks SGK,

dad won't be pleased witht the faffing about but ah well!

(PS if it takes the fees i'll invoice you for them )

do it as personal, and then click payment owed. I have never had fees taken this way, I pay people on MN this way all the time

YANBU - I hate them too.

In same situation re maiden name situation but my account is in debit £7.39. They tried to take payment from an old card which didn't work. So they very kindly passed on this HUGE debt to a debt collection agency. They also locked my account so that I couldn't make a payment even though I have funds in my bank account and told me it was "being observed"

I have now had a letter saying that bailiffs will be round to collect the debt. If they do, they'll be getting their £7.39 in 1ps..

You have my sympathy.
