to think spending a hundred pound on a rocking horse is a waste of money, kids hate them anyway.

you do not need to wastespend that much on one.

OP posts:
twinsetandpearls · 29/09/2008 17:45

wannabe my dd wanted one of those fur real horses, every week she used to sit on it in Tescos and try and look cute. She never got it.

BoysAreLikeDogs · 29/09/2008 17:46

Oh no, this is the thread about the thread

[folds arms]

morningpaper · 29/09/2008 20:19

Habbibu · 29/09/2008 20:24

I like ec's comment "ios - how can you tell anybody to get a life when your posting on mumsnet?".

bloomingfedup · 29/09/2008 20:46

"how fucking dare you start a thread about me.
you bastard. "

MorningTownRide · 29/09/2008 20:51

I'm still not entirely sure what a travel system is.

ScottishMummy · 29/09/2008 20:56

ScottishMummy · 29/09/2008 20:57

look at this horsey you tightwad

dinny · 29/09/2008 20:59

I'm going to take a pic of our beauty and post it - it's restored Edwardian (courtesy of antique dealer mil) and the kids LOVE it

called Merrylegs (at the moment, dd changes the name all the time)

teenspirit · 29/09/2008 21:02

About 5 years ago I spent £350 on one reduced from £750 It's a miniture one suitable for pre-schoolers, hand carved and I didn't even have kid's then and no where to put it. Dh nearly divorced me!!!
Fast forward to present all it's horse hair (real) is matted and ds has chewed one ear and broken the other one off - couldn't even ebay it and dh is still pissed off about it!

Pushpinia · 29/09/2008 21:04

Loving this thread!

We got a £60 one in a charity shop, he is big and scruffy and god knows why he was that much.

He's called dobbin. He even has a cigarette burn on his left shank...that is a horse who has lived, I tell you

He is absolutely loved.

expatinscotland · 29/09/2008 21:06

i find them scary and creepy, in the same way i dislike clowns and merry go rounds and rocking chairs.

they freak me out.

Pushpinia · 29/09/2008 21:07

He is like this but furry and without the weirdy mane...

teenspirit · 29/09/2008 21:20

I love rocking chairs too!

Oblomov · 30/09/2008 12:41

teenspirit, me too.
My sil is bringing over the family ercol rocking chair. I will bf in it. Like i did with ds1. Like dh's mum, grandmother and all dh's sister have. can't wait.
Ercol is creme-de-la-creme - and ours has lovely cushions, a bit like this one, chair, although ours are plain, not patterned. which make it so comfy. God, I can't wait.

witchandchips · 30/09/2008 12:44

"they were the kind of family that had to buy their own rocking horse"
(c.f alan clarks jibe about micheal heseltine having to buy his own furniture)

blueskythinker · 30/09/2008 13:23

Love it witchandchips.

I'm sure someone famous once said something about knowing the cost everything and the value of nothing.

It's a bit crass to constantly bang on about how much you spend on your children. [Not you Malory - I love your horse]. It reminds me of that thread recently boasting about how much competitive mums spent on after-school activities.

blueskythinker · 30/09/2008 13:25

Can anyone explain to me precisely why it is so rude to start a thread about a thread? I really don't see the problem.

islandofsodor · 30/09/2008 13:40

It's not just the starting a thread about a thread as such.

It is just that this thread, being so clearly about another thread where an OP posts about her childs £100 rocking horse getting broken by an immature adult, is an attack on her for having the toy in the first place.

blueskythinker · 30/09/2008 13:43

OK.

Bit of an over-reaction though

edam · 30/09/2008 13:43

I'd love a rocking horse. And room for a rocking horse. Ds would just be my excuse!

Very nasty OP and very nasty reason for a thread if I've understood correctly.

onebatmother · 30/09/2008 13:58

Oh oblomov, I love ercol. I had one of these, to confirm the suspicions of everyone who thinks I'm a fucking cunt .

onebatmother · 30/09/2008 17:32

Gosh, I am in tip-top form - I have killed both this little baby thread (I thought the c-word was all the rage this week?) and its poor parent.
