to wish that Dirty Dancing wasn't about a girl who "grows up" by stealing money from her father to pay for her friend's back-street abortion?

... at least that's the way I remember it

SUCH a shame though because it's such a FAB film, and DD (5) is obsessed by the soundtrack - but I can't really put the soundtrack in CONTEXT for her for about 10 years...

So glad that there are other people out there who hate Dirty Dancing and Pretty Woman!

Does anyone else want to add Ghost to the list?

I have to confess to smothering laughter at the end of Ghost -I saw it at the cinema aged about 12 - everyone was crying and I just found the heavenly host so laughably done I couldn't help it.

And yet despite dissing two of his most famous films, I love Patrick Swayze.

Actually, I don't hate Dirty Dancing. I really really do hate Pretty Woman though.

spicemonster · 27/09/2008 21:39

Yep - Ghost is vommy!

Blondeshavemorefun · 27/09/2008 21:39

ghost is also a fantastic film - so sad, I always have a sob whether totm or not

georgimama · 27/09/2008 21:40

LOL - The Bodyguard is my DH's favourite film of all time - I shit you not.

He is the least romantic person in the world (he loves me dearly but he can't help it, boarding school to blame I think) but he loves The Bodyguard.

DD is wonderful.

Have never seen PW, and tbh I don't think I want to.

PeppermintPatty · 27/09/2008 21:49

shudder at ghost. I HATE that film.

I also CAN NOT STAND the Bodyguard (with whitney houston). I saw that as a teenager and all my friends were crying at the end. RETCH

tortoiseshell · 27/09/2008 21:51

One good reason to love DD

ladytophamhatt · 27/09/2008 22:08

Tortoise, I even paused teh Sky+ to watch that!

thats my fav scene....

"I'm scared of what I did..of what I saw...but most of all I'm scared of walking out of this room and never feeling for the rest of my whole life the way I feel when I'm with you"

It gives me goosebumps just typing it...

I'm going to ask MNHQ to bann all you DD haters

georgimama · 27/09/2008 22:10

But they look so serious! I couldn't stop laughing the first time I had sex (sorry, TMI!)

"Pretty Woman is Cinder-fucking-rella....

and Dirty Dancing isn't about stealing money for a back street abortion, it's about Johnny learning that it life isn't a load of shit, and people are prepared to help others."

Well said 2 of the best girly feel good fils ever made.

unaccomplishedfattylegalmummy · 27/09/2008 22:17

films that is

Monkeytrousers · 27/09/2008 22:20

YABU. If there was ever a cause to steal money, it's to pay for a much needed abortion!

It says sometimes life is very hard and its okay to break the rules to survive in such situations

georgimama · 27/09/2008 22:21

Except that Penny could have died, MT, and would have died but for Baby's dad.

Szyslak · 27/09/2008 22:21

Is it???

I never noticed.

tortoiseshell · 27/09/2008 22:22

LTH. It is a GREAT scene.

CrushWithEyeliner · 27/09/2008 22:29

I always felt Oh there is so much I "missed" about DD the first time round, like the fact that Jonny was actually shagging older Women for cash.

Like the car scene in Grease about the broken Condom and Rizzo's song about being a 'ho and taking cold showers.
As for pretty Woman well, taking a hooker to the opera and polo matches, kissing them goodnight softly on the lips. I believed men would do this too when I was 12

Monkeytrousers · 27/09/2008 22:31

It's a film Georgi

georgimama · 27/09/2008 22:32

Mmmm, I know. You seemed to be using it as some big lesson in life teaching tool, not me.

Heated · 27/09/2008 22:37

Dislike Dirty Dancing a lot, plus Ghost, Grease, Titanic and all that choreographed mush... but inconsistently I do like PW (it must be all that shopping) & Strictly Ballroom

georgimama · 27/09/2008 22:42

Oh, Titanic, what a pile of wank. What girl would realistically dump Billy Zane and that diamond for fetus head di Caprio? Makes no sense.

tortoiseshell · 27/09/2008 22:51

Titanic had to be made, just for the number of ripoffs of the 'flying' scene though.

Have to say though, when teaching class music, there is only so many times you can walk into a classroom and hear 20 delightful children banging out this on 20 Casio keyboards. YEARS it went on I tell you!
