to be happy with the education my children are receiving at their independent school?

I'm content with their education. I'm happy that they mix with children from multi-ethnic and varied-income homes.

I do not regret the fact that we can afford to send them to a private school. (If I'd been that bothered I'd have had more than four children to make it financially impossible).

Give it to me straight - AIBU?

LOLOL

How does it feel, though, not being part of the community?

NormaSnorks · 25/09/2008 17:43

Of course YANBU...

Meanwhile, AIBU to be VERY happy that the parents of all my children's friends at their independent school are thoroughly nice, hard-working, ordinary people who shop at BHS rather than Boden, drive clapped out old cars (can't afford a shiny 4x4) and come from a wide geographical area (rather than a tiny middle-class enclave in a one-mile radius around a well-thought-of state school)?

PtolemysMummy · 25/09/2008 17:48

Well we are part of the community. School is just school. We do lots of community things with state school families...... We wear rubber gloves and SARS masks, naturally.

as long as you don't mind the possiblity of subjecting them to meeting Xenia at the school gates...

Combustiblelemon · 25/09/2008 17:57

PMSL PtolemysMummy.

NormaSnorks · 25/09/2008 17:57

Ha - I've often thought how much I'd LIKE to meet Xenia... I think I'd like her!

pointydog · 25/09/2008 17:58

Nobody with a son called ptomely is reasonable

Combustiblelemon · 25/09/2008 18:03

Hm Pointydog. I could say that nobody with a son called Jayden is reasonable, but I wouldn't because that would be classist bollocks wouldn't it

noonki · 25/09/2008 18:05

is ptomely a name?

pointydog · 25/09/2008 18:06

You could but it wouldn't be relevant to the opening spoof post so out of context it would be bollocks

MrsShalloway · 25/09/2008 18:06

I'm very content with my children's education and the fact that they are both top of the class. Did I mention they are in a state school (a very good state school btw)?

Aibu to send my bright lovely children to a state school, even though I could afford to go private?

No, I don't think so. My children don't need extra funding to shine intellectually or an early introduction to elitism for that matter

policywonk · 25/09/2008 18:09

Well said pointy

AbbeyA · 25/09/2008 18:13

You would be rather silly if you weren't content but went on paying regardless!

Combustiblelemon · 25/09/2008 18:14

Yes it's a name, and the fact that it's a spoof doesn't mean that it's fair to say things like that. But as you've said, you think I'm unreasonable.

pointydog · 25/09/2008 18:15

it is feasible that I would find it funny for someone to comment on the name Jayden. I see it more as sense of humour rather than classism.

JuneBugJen · 25/09/2008 18:15

I know a 4 year old Ptolomy in Exeter. Is that you?

bloomingfedup · 25/09/2008 18:16

FFS.

Yanda · 25/09/2008 18:17

Ooh I'm in Exeter, will keep an eye out for a young Ptolomy how do you say it?

Combustiblelemon · 25/09/2008 18:20

London, and ignore the 'P' to pronounce it.

pagwatch · 25/09/2008 18:21
JuneBugJen · 25/09/2008 18:21

with a silent P. Think it is something Egyptian.

Ptolomy from the West Countreeee

PoppyFox · 25/09/2008 18:24

You're overthinking it. Clearly you didn't go to private school yourself. You're on the way up.

I'm on the way down. My children at a state school. I over think that one.

MrsShalloway · 25/09/2008 18:24

will make more effort

LynetteScavo · 25/09/2008 18:29

YABtotally U!

What a boring, passive agressive OP!!!!

MrsShalloway · 25/09/2008 18:30

God,Poppyfox, what a way to think, on the way down! I feel sorry for your kids and not because they're at a state school [hmm}
