live in social housing.
there are 2 now.
haven't people got anything better to do, than to slag other people of and judge then,
I live in a HA because there is no other type of housing that we can get, that has the disabled access we need. and we have a lovely van.
why do people judge others when they know fuck all about their circs???????????????????????

social housing is council owned or housing association owned housing.

The rents are not subsidised. The reason the rents seem cheap is because private landlords are parasites whose greedy and extortionate rents make the council houses SEEM cheap in comparison.

Some people do get housing benefit, but this can be used towards social or privately rented housing.

HA = Housing associatin, noy part buy, rents are a lot dearer than council.

Yes, LL, that's right. They are purchased by council or HA

The cheap housing for essential workers scheme is a joke - I've yet to find any essential worker who has bought a house more cheaply than anyone else.

yanbu

I'm facing homelessness in four days now, and really really hope that eventually a HA house will turn up for us and DS and I don't spend too long in temporary accomodation.

I cannot afford to rent privately, or own. And I am not scum

Overmydeadbody · 22/09/2008 17:09

rebelmum their rent isn't subsidised just because they are in council or HA housing. It just means a lower more affordable rent as the owners are not in it for profit. Once you're in a council or HA property you can stay there as long as you like regardless of whether your circumstances change.

saint2shoes · 22/09/2008 17:16

I can assure you the rent isn't chap for a HA house, we probally pay more a month than my bil does on his mortgage for his 5 bed house.

saint2shoes · 22/09/2008 17:16

cheap(I must turn the light on)

Yeah it seems that there are people who just bought a house at the current 5-times-its-real-value price and think this means they are better than I am.

All I would say to them is 'have fun with the mortgage payments'

Do we have a smilie for rolling on the floor laughing and pointing at someone? Lo

Peachy · 22/09/2008 17:25

Loads of nurses in HA LL, lack of essential worker housing

We had a 50 / 50 house that was with the HA for a bit, would do it again but the 50% the HA own is throwaway money- you get no services (repairs, etc) so we'd probably have been better off buying all of it- ah well.

saint2shoes · 22/09/2008 17:25

littlelapin I have to enter that for quote of the week lol

nametaken · 22/09/2008 17:27

saint2shoes I agree HA rents are not cheap. They are the correct price.

If you pay more in rent that your BIL pays on his mortgate I expect that's because he only has a small mortgate. Mortgate payments depend on how much money you borrow, not how big your house is.

2beornot2be · 22/09/2008 17:27

I am surprised that people know which people live in what for instance my friend lives in a council flat and its the only council flat on her road she lives on an expensive road in SW London, My Father lives on a council estate and owns his house as he brought it from the council. Not that it flipping matters if you live in council or HA housing I would rather that than spend shit loads on Private rent and with the credit crunch I wouldnt want a flipping morgage

nametaken · 22/09/2008 17:30

50/50 houses are not the same as cheaper housing for essential workers.

In 50/50 housing, you only own half a house. If cheap housing for essential workers did actually exist, it would be a house that was sold to an essential worker for less money than a banker would pay for it. IFSWIM

you know what they always say...

you can take the girl out of the council house.....

but you can never take the council house out of the girl.....

sorry - weak joke attempt.

sorry have never used this saying myself but reading the bafflingly weird opinions on here sometimes i can't help myself.

as a nurse would love a HA house but they're all full of people who need them more than me scum

DisasterArea · 22/09/2008 17:32

oh god i crossed out he wrong bit. am v tired.
sorry.
not being horrible. don't care who libves in social houses.
sorry.
going now.

SaintRiven · 22/09/2008 17:32

I grew up in a council house. We've had our name down 5 years now to get one here and thats with a disabled child. I expect we might as well get our names down for a pensioners bunagalow now.

nametaken · 22/09/2008 17:33

You would be wrong to assume the qualification for social housing is based on income.

Anyone can have social housing. Where demand outstrips supply, they are allocated according to need and urgency.
