it's not so much snobbery in housing there, nametaken.
there are not many council estates there, certainly not like you find here and only in large cities.
the government allocated social housing much, much differently.
for one, 'buy to let' private landlords are quite scarce. most privately rented housing is in the form of an 'apartment complex', which is basically a large campus of buildings, usually 2-3 stories high, of flats owned by massive corporations or conglomerates.
they have to allow a certain percentage of 'section 8' tenants - low income.
that way, it's far, far more integrated than you see in the UK.
but there is a prevalent mentality that hard work is the cure for everything adn that if you are not financially successful in life, it is because of a personal fault of your own and therefore in some respects your fault.
they put a huge emphasis on work and work longer hours on the whole than in the UK.
it's expected of everyone that work comes first.
