To be furious at Barratts Homes.. we thought we had bought our dream home

in a quiet location with working families and young kids. Is lovely, mid terrace, overlooking woodland, nice neighbours.. well in the houses sold that is.

Have now found out that the remaining properties including the 2 next to us (we are mid terrace) are sold to Housing Association as Barratts have been unable to sell them at the ridiculous prices they were asking.

THis means that the back garden is directly overlooked by housing association, with waist high fences. We already have so social housing here and have had some issues in terms out of control dogs, very loud parties, shouting and fighting etc. TO have that right next door as a possibilty is a real worry.

We paid a lot of money for our home and regardless of economic condition the value of the property will be affected by the fact that we are mid terrace with social housing.

I know i am likely to be flamed by some for not being politically correct but the fact is with socail housing there are often social issues and i didnt want to live next door to that. We saved for a long time to afford our home and now we are dreading the tenants moving in.

I have also been told that one of the women who will be going for one of the house is a well known drug user and that dealers will visit her...

and Barratts have really put us in the poo.

well katie, hatrick hasn't JUST bought her house.

so, stop talking crap.
as pointed out already you don;t know:

1.) what area she is in
2.) what she had already negotiated
3.) when she bought the house.

thisisyesterday · 19/09/2008 23:29

now let me see...
paying 5k to get your dream home.
selling for 60k less that you wanted.

hmmm, who is the twat again????

KatieDD · 19/09/2008 23:29

Too be fair I wasn't actually talking to Hatrick when I posted the twat comment it was to the OP who had just bought, so be a dear and fark off.

thisisyesterday · 19/09/2008 23:30

hmm what's that? don't liek the reply so tell the poster to fuck off.

very eloquent

BoysArrrrLikeDogs · 19/09/2008 23:30

ButtonMeUp - a gracious apology

Well done

Quattrocento · 19/09/2008 23:30

Just wanted to post to say the comments posted towards hatrick are entirely out of place. You absolutely do not know what position she was negotiating from.

Say a house is on the market for £300k. You get it for £265 when houses in the area are going for £280. You've got a bargain. Then you come online and somebody who knows nothing WHATSOEVER about the position tells you you are an idiot for not being able to get it for £249k. Entirely irritating.

thisisyesterday · 19/09/2008 23:31

let me get this right. the OP is a twat for paying over 250k. but hatrick isn't?

because, you implied that anyone who paid that would be a twat. seems sensible that Hatrick, having paid 265k would include herself in your generalisation? no?

thisisyesterday · 19/09/2008 23:31

well put quattro

it could be worse, you could be in America

Ronaldinhio · 19/09/2008 23:34

Why are everyone's knickers in such a twist over how well or badly they have been perceived to negotiate over a bloody house.

Let's all kick back with a vodka and fruit shoot and examine our otherworldly grace, wit and beauty

Why buy a new home??? Don't all developers have to offer a % to social housing now? I must admit, my stepkids live in a huge housing association house on the edge of a brand new estate and the neighbourhood sounds dire - I wouldn't have liked to have paid for a house there.

BUT as others have said, it's not just Social housing tennants that cause problems which is why I would always buy a house on an established estate/road and thoroughly check the area - although, things can change even in the best areas!

ButtonMeUp · 19/09/2008 23:36

Or namechange.

All will be forgotten in the morning, I promise.

Sleep tight.

cali · 19/09/2008 23:40

Up here they only have to make a small percentage "affordable housing" in each new development.

susiecutiebananas · 19/09/2008 23:40

Right so... should you have your home repossessed due to financial difficulties and find yourself in the position of having to rely on help from the state, and end up in a HA house, say in 5 years time, how would you feel about the people around you, in your new home, having narrow minded, un founded bigoted attitudes towards you|?

I'm a nurse - a respectable profession I think. I have a DD. We are struggling financially as my DH has gone AWOL. I may very well end up needing HA help. I already have had to ask for help with rent a I am not earning currently, it was that or have no roof over our heads. Would you be worried about me moving in next door? A quiet, woman, on her own with a gorgeous 20month old daughter, just trying to live, basically. Would this offend you too?

You have NO idea who may be moving next to you. Your neighbours on the other side might upsticks and rent their property out, to someone anti-social. Then what will you do?

Actually, I cannot believe i've taken the time to post on such a ridiculous thread...

Oh, just a foot note- to those who think that 260k is alot for a house... you clearly don't live in London... the flat over the road a small 2 bed flat, no garden went for 320K a month or 2 ago... shocking isn't it. I will never, ever be able to get on the property ladder again. Ever.

COunt yourself lucky you have your own home.

This is going to be the social housing of the future as new builds are least attractive properties on the market and always loose value quickly ina downturn. The govt and local authorities will be buying these up at knock down prices and letting them. And buying private is a mis nomer because until you make the final payment you don't own anything the bank do.I have never lived in social housing but have had nightmaer 'private' neighbours on a few occasions Enjoy your house and chill x

susiecutiebananas · 19/09/2008 23:53

ok, sorry. you have apologised. I DO hope it's sincere, I really do.

maybe you really really need to think before you post such an offensive- on -so- many- levels post, in the future....

Colditz- I would love to meet you some day, you are just my kind of person. I so many ways. ( of course not just referring to this thread! )

pgwithnumber3 · 19/09/2008 23:56

LMAO at this thread. How is someone a "twat" for paying more than £250,000 for a house?
