To be furious at Barratts Homes.. we thought we had bought our dream home

in a quiet location with working families and young kids. Is lovely, mid terrace, overlooking woodland, nice neighbours.. well in the houses sold that is.

Have now found out that the remaining properties including the 2 next to us (we are mid terrace) are sold to Housing Association as Barratts have been unable to sell them at the ridiculous prices they were asking.

THis means that the back garden is directly overlooked by housing association, with waist high fences. We already have so social housing here and have had some issues in terms out of control dogs, very loud parties, shouting and fighting etc. TO have that right next door as a possibilty is a real worry.

We paid a lot of money for our home and regardless of economic condition the value of the property will be affected by the fact that we are mid terrace with social housing.

I know i am likely to be flamed by some for not being politically correct but the fact is with socail housing there are often social issues and i didnt want to live next door to that. We saved for a long time to afford our home and now we are dreading the tenants moving in.

I have also been told that one of the women who will be going for one of the house is a well known drug user and that dealers will visit her...

and Barratts have really put us in the poo.

If this isn't a wind up then you, Madam, have seriously offended me.

Do you not think it is bad enough to be in a life's position where you have to rely on social housing, without the knowledge that your neighbours won't let their children speak to yours because they own their houses?

Do you not think that you already have enough of an advantage without inflicting the gut wrenching misery on your neighbours, of making it perfectly clear you think you are better than someone else, simply because you have a better bank balance?

Have you any idea how close some 'homeowners' are to the point at which they lose their homes and land up in "Social housing".

are you so frightened of the poor that you must display your many prejudices in a bleat across the internet, or explode in a fit of Daily Mail induced hysteria?

What sort of attitudes are you teaching your children?

(It's the sort of attitudes that lead to rolled eyes in social gatherings, in case you hadn't noticed people doing it)

The Poor do not have two heads.

We do not eat our young and (and I realise this may come as a pleasant surprise) we don't eat yours either.

We don't smell of curry. There is no obligation to wear special clothes, such as track suits or arm bands - many of us move in disguise, knowing the fear and revulsion we cause amongst people like yourself - the Closet Phobes.

With respect Hatrick it's a silly figure to agree on that close to the stamp duty threshold, shall I £2,490 in stamp duty or buy a house for over £250,000 and pay £7,500, Hmmm let me think.

ButtonMeUp · 19/09/2008 23:13

Am actually friendly with the a fair few of the HA residents here, hence hearing about the drug user woman who is applying.

We planned to be here for 10 years, as good schools etc. Prices are high (were) as we are in a national park so arent twats, thanks.

Avenap , you are right. Hatrick fair point.

Ohh and KatieDD, I thought the governemt were temporarily stopping stamp duty and regardless the builder often covers new build stamp duty as part of incentive (which they did for us)

at banjo. Does he have a rocking chair?

SmugColditz · 19/09/2008 23:14

That's odd, because for someone who claims not to be a twat, you've made some unfeasibly twat-like comments.

Ronaldinhio · 19/09/2008 23:15

Stamp duty on properties up tp £175k

2shoes · 19/09/2008 23:15

in answer to the op.
barratt homes are shit. if you buy their houses what do you expect.
now go shag a sheep

Miaou · 19/09/2008 23:15

at Colditz

Have you considered a career in journalism?

BexieID · 19/09/2008 23:16

No he doesn't, but i'm sure he would if they had the room, lol.

cali · 19/09/2008 23:18

Family in our street recently moved out, she used to drag him out in the street, where they would both fight on a regular basis.

Children woke next door neighbour up at 3am as "mummy and daddy are hurting" aged 3 and 10.

The police were regular visitors.

Every weekend they would have "parties" ie drink from 1st thing in the morning, getting louder and louder until collapsing.

Youngest dc probably thought his name was "You Fucking Cunt"

ButtonMeUp you probably think I live in a housing association house after describing your worst fears. Well, I don't.
This family lived in the most expensive house in my estate, a 6 bedroomed, 3 storey house, which cost over £100000 more than the average house price for the area in which I live.

yabu, just because people can afford a mortgage, does not mean that they are any "better" than those who can't.

SmugColditz · 19/09/2008 23:18

Oh my, no. I have to care about the subject to string an articulate sentence, and being a tenant, I don't care about house prices. Not a newspaper in the land would employ me!

ButtonMeUp · 19/09/2008 23:19

If this isn't a wind up then you, Madam, have seriously offended me. - I apologise.

Do you not think it is bad enough to be in a life's position where you have to rely on social housing, without the knowledge that your neighbours won't let their children speak to yours because they own their houses? Actually ds1 plays with all kids here regardless of where they live except for one who throws larges rocks and swears alot.

Do you not think that you already have enough of an advantage without inflicting the gut wrenching misery on your neighbours, of making it perfectly clear you think you are better than someone else, simply because you have a better bank balance? Dont think im better, just worried that will get nightmare neighbours, but to be fair could be if private or HA

Have you any idea how close some 'homeowners' are to the point at which they lose their homes and land up in "Social housing". - You are right.

are you so frightened of the poor that you must display your many prejudices in a bleat across the internet, or explode in a fit of Daily Mail induced hysteria? NOt at all, isnt to do with how much money someone has. Having moved from an area were there was alot of 'gangs' am very wary.

What sort of attitudes are you teaching your children? Actaully, I hope i havent let my dc be aware of my concerns. I will address this if i have.

(It's the sort of attitudes that lead to rolled eyes in social gatherings, in case you hadn't noticed people doing it)

We do not eat our young and (and I realise this may come as a pleasant surprise) we don't eat yours either. - MIne are tasty

We don't smell of curry. There is no obligation to wear special clothes, such as track suits or arm bands - many of us move in disguise, knowing the fear and revulsion we cause amongst people like yourself - the Closet Phobes. - I like curry

And I am sorry - was a nob

katieDD what a ridiculous statement.

you don't know how much of a reduction Hatrick may already have got to get her house at £265k.

another 15k off of that is a lot of money.

her and her dh obviously chose a house that they loved and that suited them. it happened to cost £265k

what on earth is the problem with that??

Ooh, I can feel a talk show audience-stylie impulse to shout "Go Coditz! Go Colditz! Go Colditz!" coming on

Buttonmeup, I'm afraid you have to spend a LOT more than £260 on something that is NOT a mid terrace if you want to avoid having neighbours. A Barratt estate was never, ever going to be exclusive. Bless your innocent little wannabe Hyacinth Bouquet heart.

KatieDD · 19/09/2008 23:22

Hatrick not being funny or anything but you would not have had to loose a bedroom, you would have to negotiate harder.
If you were happy to chuck £5k down the drain well good luck to you.
Can I borrow a fiver ???

SmugColditz · 19/09/2008 23:22

If you are sorry, you are sorry. I accept your apology, as we all have a capering gibbering little nob inside us.

No, I've only made comments towards the OP, hatrick, not you at all.

thisisyesterday · 19/09/2008 23:24

katiedd, I try not to be rude on here any more.

but, you are talking the biggest load of crap I have heard in a long time.
.
getting over 15k off a house????? what the fuck kind of world do you live in??

Ronaldinhio · 19/09/2008 23:25

although if you're asking you sounded like a paranoid flavoured twat there hatrick

ButtonMeUp · 19/09/2008 23:25

Reflectively i dont want my kids to grow up being superior. I wasnt allowed to play on the council estates because my mum was a snob. Ek

We are very lucky to have our home and yes we are being snobs ourselves for being concerned over who might move in next door. I will go shag a sheep (well i wont actually cos none around and i dont fancy them).

I am extremely embarrassed and may have to change name to ever post here again.
