To be shocked and disgusted at what I've just watched on BBC1 'Motorway Cops'

Just watched a police car stop a family. They had two children in the back, a 10mth old and a 4yr old. Neither the children nor the adults had seat belt on. Neither child was in a child seat.

He was cautioned and told he would receive a summons BUT he was then allowed to carry on his journey on the M6 with the kids in the back without car seat probably without even being strapped in.

Surely this cannot be responsible policing? Imagine an accident at 70mph where nobody including a baby and toddler are strapped in.
I know it's TV but this isn't fiction and I trully am upset and angry at this.

sadly totally legal although I agree with you it is IMO very very wrong.

What pisses meoff is that if he'd had noinsurance or tax disc they would have confiscated the car and taken them off the motorway but hey, all he was doing was endangering the lives of two innocent kids.

Dha dn I recently went to London on a coach and I was absolutely gobsmacked at the amount of cars we passed with children not in car seats and babies and toddlers climbing all over their parents knees in the front of the car.

So its perfectly legal?

if you can claim that it is not a usual journey and there are no car seats available I believe it is not illegal

I saw a couple today get into their car with their dd who was around same age as my dd about 2.5 ,she got in the back with her mother and the father started driving off with lo stood in between front seats .

here I am wrong about the 10 month old but the 4 year old could be covered by the exceptions in the second example on the link.

OMG thats terrible i wont let my two age 2 & 5 in any car without car seats.

No disrespect to any police mnetters but at the end of the day i don't think they are really that concerned with safety. It's all about making money... as the op said, a summons was given only. who cares wether the kids get hurt as long as a bit more cash is made.

It's the same with speed cameras. If the idea was simply to slow people down for safety then why hide so many of them... they want you to speed so they can discreetly catch you and make money...

Sorry about my rant but it makes my blood boil... My kids don't get in a car without seats and boosters..

SM, I hear about the economic meltdown every night as DH is a lawyer for an investment bank.
