Around 17,990 staff who work or have worked at the Whittington Hospital NHS Trust, Camden Primary Care Trust, Islington Primary Care Trust and Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust since April 2001, are affected by this lost data. This includes staff who have since left these trusts but were working at any point between April 2001 and March 2008.

my bank have put a marker on my account in case of any fraudulent transaction. they put me through to fraud dept who reckon it has the potential to be a risk eg Address,DoB,NI all cold be used for fraud or set up DD

so basically if anyone tries to set up DD or initiate payment request etc is flagged up

no payroll is in house situated at whittington, and yes they are incompetent

Should note that the disks were all encrypted and password protected, so the likelihood that the information will be accessible is quite small. Not saying that someone screwed up, and clearly they did as there have been suspensions. These sort of incidents are now much more likely to be reported as they have become such high profile (I am afraid that such incidents almost certainly happened before but were not reported).

Payroll staff have seen their work increased 100% in the last 10 years.

My 2 sisters work in payroll at a NHS hospital in the North West. They regularly work over their contracted hours for no pay as overtime is outlawed. They do this to ensure people are paid on time, and correctly paid.

They are not incompetent. My sister nearly had a breakdown due to the hours they are expected to work to get the job done. She suffered a fit because of work issues.

Please do not generalise. I do understand the issues here, as I work for the NHS and would not want my bank details etc leaked out. Office staff, like payroll are just as understaffed as clincal staff.

Payroll are traditionally rubbish. But they are very poorly paid, and in my experience departments suffer from high turn over. I'm not surprised it is stressful. Doesn't stop them driving me around the bend though...
