To object to DP wearing 'wrong' football shirt tomorow?

Our city football team has recently been promoted to the premier league. First time ever as far as I know. Needless to say the city is VERY 'patriotic' to the team these days and every saturday the city center is swarming with black and yellow striped t-shirts.

Now DP comes from Newcastle and he has decided he is going to wear his newcastle shirt around Hull City center tomorow. For those of you unfortunate enough to know Hull...the KC stadium is right near the city centre so proud/irate/excitable fans gather here every saturday, especially in the sports bars.

This is just typical of DP, anything to be centre of attention and "prove" himself etc. I told him he will end up getting insulted/beaten up (as we are going for a few drinks too) but he's insisting its 'his right' to wear what he wants

Is he being a twat or am I being unreasonable?

A grown man wearing a football shirt when not playing football will always look at twat IMO.

but aside from that yes, it is his right to wear what he wants.
you can object, but ateotd it's up to him isn't it?

My cousin did a similar thing. Walked around the streets of Liverpool in an Everton Top after an important match.

He still has a scar above his eye to remember the day by. (He was only 13 though!)

Well it's up to him. I'm sort of on his side just because I hate the fuckwittery of football supporting in the first place and always want to annoy football supporters when they are baying and gibbering and getting in my way when I want a pint. I despise the braindead tribalism of the whole thing - FFS it's a lot of berks chasing a ball about, and sooner or later one of them will kick it in the right direction, and it really doesn't actually matter. IF you think kicking a ball about is so exciting why not go and fucking do it rather than watching other people do it?

thats the thing, he's not really that into football and has never been to a match in his life. He just likes to think he's being a "real geordie" and supporting his home town by wearing the shirt

I'm still in sympathy with your DP because this is the sort of thing I would want to do (but would rather not spend a whole night being spat at, harangued and thumped unless it was for a worthwhile cause) because I just loathe the idea that 'everyone feels the same way and if you don't you're scum and we can hit you', whatever it's about. There are going to be plenty of people in your home town who don't give a flying fuck about it, actually, and will be very bored with strangers rushing up to them shrieking with enthusiasm and demanding an equally enthusiastic response. So it's always a noble thing to show that not everyone's buying into the prevailing knicker-wetting obsessional bullshit, whatever it might be.

ARe Hull playing Newcastle? If yes then fine to wear it IMO. If not then he has no reason to wear it.

Well, Hull were actually wearing their away shirts in the game, which were grey & practically indistinguishable from Newcastle's black & white - so maybe all the Hull fans mistook his shirt for the away one....

Did your DP wear the shirt??? Both teams are crap anyways. I wear an Arsenal shirt on match day near Chelsea I couldn't care less
